My '67 330 GTC has a Blaupunkt that is kaput and not financially logical to fix. So, in researching for a period replacement, it seems like most cars of this era (mid 60s+) have either one of these brands. I read the Ferrari radio article on Tom Yang's bulletin board and it discusses both brands but doesn't make a definitive recommendation. Most 330 GTC pictures I see have cars with Blaupunkts, except for one with a Becker. It also seems like Beckers were installed more in Mercedes and Porshes of the day. So, I throw this out to the forum looking for some wisdom in helping to narrow my search.

    Thanks, Tom

My 330GTC has a Becker. My impression from having owned several MBz's and many Porsches is that Becker is the superior unit. In fact, in my limited Ferrari experience, it seems that most cars of the 330GTC era have Beckers, not B'punkts, but that's not scientific by any means.

If I were in a situation similar to yours I would try to find out what the original equipment was. Failing that, I would try to source a period correct Becker.

    Thanks, Tom

I'm not sure about this, but weren't these radios put in by the dealer at the owner's request at the time? Which would imply that there weren't factory standard radios, the owners would just request a certain brand or type of their preference.

My 330 doesn't have its original radio anymore, so can't help there.

My Daytona's radio was an extra, fitted by Ferrari UK. It was a radiomobile 108SR , and cost an extra £112.00 plus vat @ 10% with and electric aerial.

So as Jazzy say's you could have what you want or what the dealer offered, at least that was the case for the Daytona anyway.
It might explain why there is no definitive answer though.

That's a great unit. I tried to get one but they aren't for the US market, or so I was advised by Becker. I'd put one of those in my car in a second!

They are not available in / or for the US market, but you can get them via ebay uk, I get mine from an Aston Specialist who hits my AMEX and fedexes.

But I don't think the radio frequencies and maps will work in the US.

Thanks all for the insight. Looks like either brand is applicable so will allow more flexibility in my search.

My Mercedes (1984) has the original Becker. Having owned several Blaupunkts in my Saab, I can attest that the Becker is the better unit.

The original Blaupunkt was stolen from my 1984 Saab, and my insurance paid to replace it with the closest model. It was under warranty when it went kaput, so I was able to exchange it for another Blaupunkt. This happened THREE TIMES in about a year and a half, and I only continued to replace it because it was free - although terribly inconvenient to have a new unit reinstalled every 8 - 10 months.

I have had no trouble with the original 1984 Becker.

For me this speaks against Saab, not Blaupunkt.

How can you compare 1984 electronics to 1967 electronics? What Blaupunkt and Becker produced 17 years later is not really relevant for this discussion.

Odd that you would think that, considering that I had to replace three Blaupunkts under warranty, not three Saabs.

I cannot see three Blaupunkts failing unless there was something wrong with the car or how the radio was hooked up. That's why. Best wishes, Kare

To have a nice radio in the dash is IMO only for the nice esthetical view
at least let say for car build till 1962.
the noise of engine and wind noise in overwelming.
You can only use it when washing you car in front of your home, which is forbidden now
    in europe.
Or are all those 100% restaurated cars full of 3M isolation?
which makes the F-car rather heavy.
