Two cited after blind man crashes golf cart into parked car in PTC
    By JOHN MUNFORD
    [email protected]

A golf cart driven by a blind man, thanks to verbal directions from a drunk passenger, ran into a parked car at the El Ranchero restaurant in Peachtree City Saturday, police said.

Somehow, the duo made it to the restaurant from the Clover Green area, a good two miles away, police said.

The blind driver, Samuel McClain, 35, of Stockbridge, and the passenger Michael Johnston, 47, of Peachtree City, were both arrested for reckless conduct, police said.

There were no injuries reported from the crash. McClain’s seeing-eye dog was also on board the golf cart at the time of the incident, police said.

Witnesses told officers that Johnston was giving McClain directions as the golf cart crashed into the parked vehicle, police said. McClain also admitted to driving the cart, and Johnston admitted he was under the influence after drinking six or seven beers, which is why he wasn’t driving the golf cart, police said.

McClain does not have a driver’s license but one isn’t necessary for adults to drive in Peachtree City, police noted.

McClain and Johnston were charged with reckless conduct “due to the blatant disregard for public safety,” police said.

I can't believe the dog didn't point him in the right direction...wasn't it a seeing eye dog?

That's the whole reason that dogs stick their head out the window: to alert you of impending crashes! Yet the dog was not charged? What a society we live in!

This happened about 2 miles from my house. Actually, I don't believe that the blind guy drove all 2 miles. The cart paths (there are 88 miles of them in town) are very narrow, and twisty with trees right up to the edge. The drunk probably drove through the woods and the blind guy took over in the public areas. Whatever the truth, it makes for good press, and a possible Darwin Award candidate.

I'm not a blind, but totaled a golf cart, and drove into a pond. I haven't been driving a golf cart for the past 3 years now.
