Does anyone know of a way WITHOUT BUYING A SPECIFIC PROGRAM to block a single web site?

I would like to block "MySpace", make it where the kids simply cannot access it.

I have XP professional on every computer, anything built into it that would work?

Wow, great idea with the hosts file trick. I used to do that to block popups, etc, but I never thought of doing it to restrict kids' access.

Remember though, depending on how tech savvy your kids are, they might very well bypass this or other methods. Thankfully, I was able to hack computers before my parents knew how to turn one on. :)

Either back up the hosts file to floppy, or make a copy of the file.

Alternatively, you probably have a router/gateway since you have multiple users. Many of those will allow you to block access or inbound traffic from designated IP addresses or domains. Check your router/gateway manual for the specifics.

    Mine is a linksys too...

Edit: I looked at it a little more. The url address blocking looks easy since it's by name; the tricky part with this linksys filter is that you have to create a PC list by IP or MAC address for which the url address blocking is applicable. If you don't know how to do this, let me know.

If that happened, you turn the tables back on them and install a system boot password and they don't get on unless YOU enter in the password, period.

What ever happened to the days when you simply told a child: "Don't do (fill in the blank)" and they didn't do it?

Until we get back to that point, this world will continue to be f'ed up.
