I have recently been contacted about a possible job position in the Bloomington-Normal area of Illinois. The job itself sounds interesting enough however, I know nothing of this area and my family knows no one within any close distance of it. Wondering if anyone has any feedback on living in this area?

For background, my wife and I are both in our early-mid 30's, almost 2 year old at home, have lived in the Southeast Wisconsin area our whole lives. Any information is much appreciated!

Bloomington-Normal is about as close to you can get to any-town USA.

Its economy is stable thanks to the likes of State Farm, Allstate & other insurance giants. Lots of employment.

Not very big, but that makes for a very nice community to get around in. Plus there is a large college contingent that keeps the place hopping.

Shopping is very good says my social wife.

I luv the airport there. Very nice, and again easy to navigate.

The car scene is mild, but you are only a few bits away from the big city of Chicago.

I think its a well above average place to be. But the weather is regular Illinois fare.

I agree with Mike. I used to go down there all the time while supporting State Farm and a few other customers. Good bang for the buck in housing, decent schools, low crime. good all American town to raise the family.

Wow, I spent quite a bit of time in Bloomington-Normal for undergrad physics at ISU. Quite liked the campus and school in general, but literally nothing about the town/area stands out in my mind. I guess it really IS "anytown, USA."

You would be less then 60 miles from Springfield. Lived here all my life. Bloomington is growing and there are quite a few good restaurants and shopping areas. Relatively cheap to live but flat as a pancake terrain.
We have quite a few exotics around Springfield and 1 or 2 car shows every week.
Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.
