My son-in-law (The Genius - knows everything about everything) told SWMBO that "they" have known "for years" that it's possible to drop a bomb in the center of a hurricane and disrupt/dissipate it. Probably a MOAB or something. So now, SWMBO keeps asking ME why "they" don't do it. "Think of all the lives that could be saved."

"Effed if I know. I'll ask the F-Chatters." Even if no one knows, somebody, probably a nuclear (oh sorry, nuculer) physicist or bomb specialist, will chime in and scientifically dissect this theory.

Maybe Darth knows. He could haul his old rusty battleship avatar out of mothballs and send it into the Gulf to take a few potshots at Katrina and see what happens.

What kind of bomb? Be aware that anything radioactive would be distributed EVERYWHERE, not to mention these storms tower into the troposphere and the jet stream would carry around remnants of whatever garbage you blew it up with.

I know for a fact Black Ops tested sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads and it worked.

i might have failed chemistry because i skulled most of what i found in the beakers, but i'm relatively confident that corn isn't available in a gaseous form

Ah yes, but as the corn pops and interacts with the beans, the gasous expansion increases exponentially....creating the desired effect!

What kills me more is the fact that if you live in 'weezyanna' (and other places around the Gulf), you should have a stash of plywood and about 40 gallons of gas. This AM, the mayor told everyone to get the hell out of Dodge. They opened both directions of the HWY to get everyone out......It was a parking lot. With the clouds building up pretty heavy, aint it a bit late to hit a Home Depot looking for 4x8 sheets of plywood while the gas stations are running out of gas?

Peter, i don't think setting fire to the hurricane is a viable solution

Hurricanes, if i remember correct, are actually good for the environment, they keep temps or something in check, so blowing them up might not be the best solution.

A bit ironic isn't it that we can supposedly cause global warming but can't defuse a storm a small fraction the size of the planet?!?

IIRC, "The Genius" said something like that as reason why "they" don't do it. The "theory" was based on non-nuclear explosions.

Still wonder about dropping a MOAB into Katrina. (There's your next cue, Lamour.)

whats the power output of a cat 5 hurricane, i bet its way more than what a moab makes.
