Those are retail asking prices with almost no activity. What do you think the real and wholesale prices are. Its hard to admit for most people but the actual sale or trade in prices are significantly less than most people think. Look at 20% less than retail. There are no rules anymore with used F car pricing. Everything we have been experiencing from 1990's until now is over. I would refer to the 1960-1980's for a realistic depreciation schedules. It doesnt matter how much you like your car or the price you would let it go for, its not worth nearly what most people think it is. Its a grood time for people with cash on the sidelines waiting to get in on a car. Even the people with cash probably dont feel like pulling up in an F car when 7% of the people on the street are just looking for a job. My opinion, buy the car for a great price and put it away until things start to get better.

It has to happen sooner or later. The 355 is just a better looking car and I think will always hold a special place in the heart of Ferrarists. Kinda like the 993 turbo is to the 996 turbo.

If we all sweated the prices of our cars we'd go nuts. When times were good, we were smugly sitting around chorttling about the value of our cars and how high they might get, we still said the same thing - enjoy and drive your car.

Prices go up and they come down. Whatever. I still cannot get over the fact that almost any 328 would sell for more than almost any 348 at almost any time. It's mind numbing!!! Wait until this is true for the 355. I'll be looking for a cliff to jump off of. Actually, I'll probably be smirking at the idiots causing this inequity, confident in the fact that I own the best all around Ferrari ever. :)

Interesting spread for these cars from Autotrader tonight: 328 $35,400-$75,000 (10 cars), 348 $38,000 -$73,999 (51 cars), F355 $52,500 - $105,000 (84 cars most spiders), 360 $73,995 - $224,000 - 279 cars. I know these are only asking prices, sale prices will be lower, some are living in denial of the market on the high-end of any of these cars, but the trend I see is that the older the cars, the less likely the owner is willing to let a good one go in these times. Maybe with prices dropping as they are people may actually drive them more and enjoy the work of art they have on the road and not just in the garage or in front of the restaurant. Your 401K is probably down, but does it lift your spirits when you look at it like a Ferrari does? If we have to lose money, might as well have some fun on the way. Enjoy the ride!

Would be more helpful to throw out the cars that are WAY beyond the standard deviation and throw out the spreads...Clearly a 360 for $225K is a special (360CH maybe?) circumstance or a ridiculous price....

I bought mine a year ago....94' 348 spider, 51k miles, full documented history, from an Fchatter and PPI'ed by an Fchatter...$40,600....I feel the car is still worth that..

There will always be deals....but there are a heck of a lot more of them right now....

Ive been trying to sell my 355 6 speed nero/tan for 60k... clutch and service within last year, damn near flawless paint... great interior, challenge, exhaust etc... not one real offer. i had some people offer 52k and explain to me that that is all the money in the world for the car... blah blah blah... i told them... go ahead and buy the other one and enjoy it. There isn't another clean car on the market like mine. I have it priced resonably and will sell it reasonably... however, with all the flakes and doomsday talking heads, it has brought the riff raff out of the wood work and now I think I will just keep the car on principal. Ohh no... life is ruff... I guess Ill have to keep the ferrari. Its my first ferrari, its my favorite ferrari and well, thats reason enough to keep it. However, if anyone wants to trade a 550...

We are seeing an increase in clients picking up 355's in the 50-60K range. but almost all are in need of majors and are eariler models, some with the valve guide issue which has not been corrected and or exhaust manifolds. That being said, If you can get a car requiring service for a good price, when you are finished paying the servicing fees at least you have the piece of mind knowing your new car is well sorted, but your good deal plus service fees still equals a well serviced car.

There is no such thing as a cheap Ferrari.

Maybe 2012 but not next spring... The economy and markets are not turning around anytime soon.

Technically they may skyrocket by spring. Dont forget about hyperinflation...Its coming quicker than you think :) :) But not in the way they expect

I agree we will see massive inflation. But it won't be for a while. The economy has a long, long way to go with the current price and wage deflation. It would be economically impossible to have any inflation this Spring, next Spring, or even probably the one after that.

True, but eBay is just an advertising source like just about every other advertising source. If you see a Ferrari advertised in the newspaper, the seller is a "zero feedback" seller (i.e., you know absolutely nothing about him). Most people aren't going to buy a $30K+ Ferrari without having a PPI, so a zero feedback on a seller really doesn't mean much. You are analyzing, inspecting and buying a car - where that car is advertised doesn't change whether it is a great car, or a dog.

One thing eBay does is give national advertising exposure to a car. There are a lot of sports cars (from all makers), running over and over and over again on eBay, for months. Mostly because most owners are chasing down the market (they are often lowering prices, but just behind the market, like a lot of people do with their houses). Any eBay car is going to get a TON of looks at it, probably more than any other advertising source in the world right now. That's all you can ask of an ad.

eBay is certainly indicative of the market, just as much (or, given it's worldwide reach, moreso) as any other advertising source is indicative of the market.

The one thing Ebay is great for is searching auctions that have actually resulted in a purchase. "Real" values can be pretty close to those completed auctions.
