It is one of the cars sold at the Leake auction here in Houston a month or so ago. The winning bid was $8500. It lived in Georgia in 1999 and in Illinois in 2005. If you're serious about it I'd look it over very hard. What are those 2 round screen things in front of the injector blocks? What are those dials and switches on the left lower dash? You see all that dust/dirt on the speedo bezel?
Looks like some one's going to make some $$ on this on if the buyer doesn't renege. +1! Can't tell what that stout cylindrical unit is above the intake tube, don't konw if it has anything to do w/intake, maybe some sort of Turbonator? That speedo isn't screwed in all the way @ the bottom, somebody's been foolin' around! Got to love that low oil pressure though, doesn't low pressure = high flow? I believe 10-12 PSI /1000 RPM is all you need, Ferrari figured that out when they brought the 575 on line (suggesting that you experiment w/different weight oil to achieve recommended pressure). Was there a higher bid when you posted that statement? With the high bid at $9,100 right now and reserve not met that $600 profit wouldn't cover the shipping to LA much less the $1,400 in engine work just done. This one has "dog" written all over it. And the TRX spare won't be much use if one of the Gotti wheeled tires goes flat unless those new wheels have the exact same offset as the TRX.
And have a look at the exhausts ! Seems to have single pipes and the pot very, very low... Regards, Jacques
I'm figuring w/3 days left, who knows where it'll go. Didn't give it much consideration beings that it fetched $8K at an auction----something's up w/it. & those Gottis look like straight bolt ons, maybe a spacer in there...who knows. My guess....it'll slip right on. If not, w/Hagerty Plus, you can get that thing towed via flat-bed.
it looks like your typical 30-grand-to-put-right 400i... i could be wrong...but i doubt it. and it's a shame...because having a Ferrari that it isn't tip-top, mechanically at least, completely defeats the purpose...absolutely, positively, 100% defeats the purpose.
For a car like that in that condition, Hagerty Plus has got to be a mandatory accessory, at least as long as there is no limit on how many times they will tow you!
Looking at the Leake Auction photo, it appeared to have been rolling on its original 400i wheels when auctioned (albeit on the wrong tires), so the seller must have installed the Gotti wheels afterward. There were no fewer than 4 400i's sold at the auction, all offered at no reserve selling for between $8,400 and $12,500: http://www.leakecarauction.com/PreviousAuctions.asp?PastAuction=HOUSTON09 A red '78 sold for $8,400 without keys or battery, and perhaps the new seller bought this '83 in the same condition. Taking a quick peek at the seller's eBay auction history, he won key blanks on eBay, so he may not have heard it run until he got it home. Perhaps he bought it for personal use and got scared off when he looked in to getting tires, mufflers and a tune up, things that would normally cost a $1-2k, but could easily double his investment into this car if done to original specs. It's all speculation, but no doubt he'll want to recover his transport cost, plus wheels, plus tune-up and possibly the Corvette exhaust before the auction reserve is met.
This model will take off one day! v12 ferrari for 8000 to 12500, come on, even if it didnt run at all it is worth 12500. these cars are done ....never being made again! next v12 is gonna be over a hundred!
