The real question is, has anyone experienced a major failure for not servicing the Blue Dot at the reccommended interval? Are Italian Blue Dots better or can you use aftermarket ones? Do they stay Blue longer or turn Grey? How do you know if someone replaced the Blue Dot with a non Italian/Ferrari one? PS Anyone know where I can get real Italian air for my tires? It seems to make my car run better, I am also looking for Italian water for my windshield washer bottle .
Do NOT use cheap aftermarket blue dots. Use only genuine cartolaia ferrari blue dots. Or else. . Image Unavailable, Please Login
If you want to keep your Ferrari original, I suggest you use only Italian blue dots, I think UFI makes the original. If time to availability and maybe cost is more of a factor, Avery might work. I'm still checking on it. They're only supposed to be blue, or green if the cambelts are due. It's possible that they have disconnected the blue dot, it's fairly easy to do. I'm not sure if a Carfax report would indicate whether the blue dot was disconnected or not. In which case, you have no way of knowing whether the cambelts are due. Pelegrino is supposed to be the best Italian water. Make sure you get when they ask you "witha gas or no gazzzz" you say "no gazzzzz"
Well I just got off the phone with my wrench and he states using a Avery Blue Dot will be discovered in a PPI and significantly lower the value of the car. He is expecting a fresh shipment of Italian air in this week but I am looking for an alternative source as he charges alot for it and I am sure its something I can install myself- well maybe I am sure FChatters can guide me through it. The water issue for my windsheild washer has me really concerned as I don't want to be using non OEM/Italian water and cause damage to my windsheild or wiper blades, I'll check into the Pelegrino.
I just tore my dot off my 550 Screw it. I'll know the cam belts need changing when I hear the valves hit the pistons. Also, do not use American water in your Ferrari. Don't ask me why...just don't.
I'm really glad I saw this post as I have had a problem with that dot also. It came off after I washed the car a few times. I guess the problem was that when I ordered the Italian water to wash the car with I forgot to say without gazzzz. I will have to learn to be more specific with these importers, I thought they would know only the water that goes in the gas tank really needs the gazzzz. I have noticed that some of these threads seem to wander a bit. I guess it's a case of AAADD (Age Activated Attention Deficiet Disorder).
I would like to change my dot to a Tubi-dot. Do any of you guys have a MP3-file or any other recording? I would like to hear the dot before I purchase a genuine Tubi-dot. They cost a lot you know. Ciao Peter
Don't be silly. the pitch of the Tubi dot is so high it can't be recorded. That's why dogs bark when a Tubi_blue_Dot equipped car goes by.
After all this discussion, I had my Blue Dot replaced with Carbon Fiber. I really like the look and it is very light weight. Contact Valence for a quote! Here is a before and after
That's a great blue-dot mod Mike (that's a mouth full). I'll bet you get an extra 20HP by changing the dot out to carbon F
Thank you! I was so pleased with the way it came out. I know that I will get dinged on concours ratings for the non original parts - but what the heck. I haven't dynoed it yet, but I have dropped 2 ounces at the wheel and judging by the "seat of my pants dyno" estimate at least a 20HP gain to the wheels. I can't tell you how many compliments I get on the CF dot.
Without going into detail, your car will crash, and you will die if you continue to use the carbon-fibre dot. This might be avoided if you use a "High Fibre" dot from Kellogs..
Well that's what my first wife said, "I hope you DIE in this car!" I'm glad to know Kellog's can help with this. Does it have to be Special K, or can I stick with Frosted Flakes, which I have used with absolutely no problems, for 44 years, and countless miles?
The main problem with using Frosted Flakes over time is it tends to induce a weight problem which can really sap the HP. Special K, which I'm not familiar with, may not be as bad. As far as Carbon-F causing you to immediately die, I think that is an old wives tale. It may however fly off, shatter, and impale pedestrians. This could lead to excessive insurance rates and require high liability limits. All considered, I say go for it, the 20HP is worth the risk it poses to the pedestrians.
