I believe the blue circle dot means that it's a US model. and the blue rectangular dot means that it's a EURO model. I just checked my manual.

Do you know how much it would cost to convert to a US spec dot?

It can't be done. You have to change everything from the firewall forward, and the entire driveline. Also, there is afuse that has to be changed, but it's never in the same place in any two cars, and takes weeks @ $120/hour to locate. You can go to the Chinese Blue dot, which is the same, and costs 4 cents.

My car is a Dino 308 GT4 that was rebadged as a Ferrari. My friends car is badged as a Dino. I notice the blue dot is a different shade of blue on my car. Is it possible that when the dealer replaced the dino badge with a ferrari badge, he also replaced the dino blue dot with a ferrari blue dot?

Although it is correct for the period these cars were sold, I personally would never comingle the Dino badges with the Ferrari badges.

It dishonors the memory of Dino Ferrari, and Enzo as well.

The same applies to the blue dots.

I AM glad to hear it was an just an old wives tale.
That's sure as hell what mine was!

New gf appears to be compatible with both the Ferrari and the blue dots.

The history of the blue dot goes way back. I found the story and am posting it:

The US Standard railroad track has one blue-dot every 4 feet, 8.5 inches.

That's an exceedingly odd number. Why was that blue-dot spacing used? Because that's the way they spaced out blue-dots in England, and the US railroads were built by English expatriates.

Why did the English people build them like that? Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that's the spacing they used.

Why did they use that blue dot spacing then? Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools that they used for building wagons, which used that blue-dot wheel spacing.

    Okay!

Why did the wagons use that odd blue-dot wheel spacing? Well, if they tried to use any other spacing the wagons would break on some of the old, long distance roads, because that's the spacing of the old wheel ruts. So who built these old rutted roads?

The first long distance roads in Europe were built by Imperial Rome for the benefit of their legions. The roads have been used ever since.

    And the ruts?

The initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagons, were first made by Roman war chariots. Since the chariots were made by, or for, Imperial Rome they were all alike in the matter of blue-dot wheel spacing.

Thus we have the answer to the original questions.

The United States standard railroad has blue dots every 4 feet, 8.5 inches derives from the original specification for an Imperial Roman army war chariot. Specs and Bureaucracies live forever. So the next time you are handed a specification and wonder what horse's ass came up with it, you may be exactly right - because the Imperial Roman chariots were made to be just wide enough to accommodate the back-ends of two prancing Ferrari horses.

When we see a Space Shuttle sitting on the launch pad, there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank. These are the solid rocket boosters, or SRBs. The SRBs are made by Thiokol at a factory in Utah. The engineers who designed the SRBs might have preferred to make them a bit fatter, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site. The railroad line to the factory runs through a tunnel in the mountains. The SRBs had to fit through that tunnel. The tunnel is slightly wider than a railroad track, and the railroad track is about as wide as two horses' behinds. So a major design feature of what is arguably the world's most advanced transportation system was determined by the width of a horse's ass.

So there you have it. Blue dot's were created by a Roman horse's ass, and if you have one you must own a Ferrari.

If you need to repair your dot we have an authorized guy licensed to do all kind of maintenance and service on it, even some tuning without jeopardising the warranty.
