] High Tach Motorsports (www.hightach.com) is celebrating its 5th year as an organization, and 4th annual mountain cruise. At first it was a call upon racing and car enthusiasts, but now its grown into an annual meeting of corner carving enthusiasts to look at cars, talk about cars, and of course drive their cars though the beautiful and demanding Smokey Mountains for a very rewarding day off. Highlighting this year's cruise is aerial footage & photography from a helicopter for the vast majority of the caravan through the Blue Ridge Parkway. Adding to the footage will be stratigically placed camera mounts (pictured below) on participating cars and also other volunteers placed further down the road for fly-bys. During the event we will scope around to look at all the cars, talk to the drivers and so-forth. The finished full-length video will be $15, but of course a 4-5min internet video will be hosted on hightach.com for all to see (ok so when is this happening) When: July 10th, meet @ 9am, depart at 10:20am sharp! Where: Western North Carolina Cherokee Fun Park parking lot at entrance of Cherokee Indian Reservation enter this address for personalized directions: 1693 Tsali Manor Dr. Cherokee, NC The parking lot is HUGE, you'd have to suffer from severe tunnel vision to not see As stated we will depart from the meeting spot @ 10:20am, and head north 1m to the Blue Ridge Parkway for the official cruise. The city will escort us out so we will be able to remain in order. From there you will be surrounded by 100's of sportscars while enjoying the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway, and of course check out the helicopter that will take your mugshot. After ~2hrs of crusing the parkway, we will end the official cruise at a picnic area shortly after the parkway intersects Hwy 276 that hosts 100+ grills which you can pull your car up to and grill some hotdogs and hamburgers. We love to drink as much as you do, but please don't bring any alcoholic beverages to the cruise. What we like to call the "unofficial" cruise is after that. People will then pick and choose their "wingmen" and maps will be givin out to participants that notes key roads in the area. Roads of interests from the picnic area are 151, 276, and 215. Play at your own risk (o and make sure your brakes are bled ). Well that's it!! Hope you can make it, this year is sure to be a trip to rememeber Cherokee Hotels: http://www.discovercherokeenc.com/_lodgin/aalodgin.htm Past Mtn Cruise pics: 2003 2002 2001 post comments or questions if you have any
http://www.dtmpower.net/forum/showthread.php?t=135333 ...DTMPower.net thread regarding the meet/drive. Think i'm going to try to make it up for this one, hope to see some Italians!!
Sounds like a good time though, this is their 5th year doing this drive so sounds like they've got this one pretty ironed out by now.
Hmmm, maybe I could go when I come down to the area, does anyone know what kind of cars or how many are coming? Thanks, David
Well, from the sounds of it there's always a LOT of cars...there will be alot of Germans BMWs/Audis/etc along with some very quick japanese machines, highly modified STIs, EVOs, there's been a NSX show I believe, along with some other very quick machines. Be nice to get some cars from the other end of Europe though...every get-together can use a taste of Italian
Sweet, Jon...i'm trying to get ahold of the President of High Tach Motorsports to answer your questions, since he's over the whole thing.
http://img27.photobucket.com/albums/v80/RedlineG60/Andy/DSC02538.jpg ok, this is my Tail of the Dragon weekend. I checked mapquest, and the Tail is only 47 miles from the starting point. Surly they must be planning to drive there, if not, then they must be unaware of its existance. http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ Who's game?
Haha, nice pic David....I wish I'd taken a better one now for ya. Who all is followin you to the Dragon? - Andy
Hey fellas, I'm the man to talk to if you have any questions. The ONLY road that is scheduled to be driven on as a group is the Blue Ridge Parkway from Cherokee to where 276 intersects (which is ~1.5hrs). From there you will be pitted in the middle of some of the best roads i know and can do whatever your gas-pumping heart desires. This is where the big group will split up, choose their "wingmen", and take whatever roads they want. So it's a nice caravan cruise through the BRP while scoping out tons of nice cars in front and back of you, then meet some friends, and take some roads and enjoy yourself for the rest of the day at your own pace. I will supply personalized maps of the area noting key roads and directions to key cities. A couple of cars of notice : -530awhp Evolution 8 -at least 3 Forced induction 350Zs -at least 3 NSXs (2 supercharged) -300+rwhp 260Z-turbo I'd REALLY like to see a good Euro showing this event attracts for the most part clean well built cars that are made for the curves - Hope to see some of you there!!!
Yeah Trev?? check out JDAVID's post "staying at the grove park". You wanna come up friday and hang out with us? Or we can just meet you saturday.
dude that sucks.......tell rick to get his ass up here hahaha.....but you are still coming up saturday right? will you be driving your car as well as the m3? I think Ryan is gonna call you about it as well. cya Jeremy
Waynesville is North Asheville is East Brevard is South All are within 30min of the ending location. As stated before maps will be given out to everyone showing key roads and nearby cities.
Hey Clint.........remember the Red 996(911) you ran into up on the parkway......that was me. Haven't seen you in a while but I'm coming on saturday. I'll be in my CLK or my friends S4
What I ment was what is RIGHT THERE I know the general area. I am trying to figure out where you will be ending up because I may be able to make some of it by comming at you from the other direction. (South on BRP) Is it say, near GrandFather Mt?
Hey John try this map....... this is the area they are driving on, but you'll be coming from the other direction http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/Maps/map6.htm There isn't really anything around 276 besides lookouts.......if you go down a little farther south you run into other roads and the pisgah inn.
Heck ya i remember you CiLKy, those were the days of the fire breathing RX-7 Is Jeremey (i think thats his name) coming? The fella that had the M3. Last time i saw him he has a really nice Audi TT DrStranglove Refer to the map CiLKy posted, and we will be ending almost exactly where the BRP gets cut off at the top. Our stopping point is on the stretch inbetween the intersections of 276 and 151.
