Does anyone have any experience with this simulator stuff?

I'm doing some research and will be purposefully using my tax returns to pick one up. Is there a local Bay area dealer that I can swing by to take a closer look?

Any suggestions / advice / setup pointers / fair pricing / source etc will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

I think you will find a bunch of threads if you search but I swear by iRacing.

Blue Tiger is a pretty cool piece. It moves in ways others don't. I believe the founder/maker is in AZ. Check with them to find an SFO-area demo.

My local Blue Tiger rep in Charlotte (Mooresville) has been terrific, knows the product, has been responsive. Our schedules never meshed so I haven't had a demo ride yet.

I do just static sims (Fanatec, VisionRacer) and they're fine for what I do.

I've been using rFactor since it was introduced in 2005. Now, rFactor 2 is in beta and worth looking at, although most tracks and cars are available only for rFactor, the original.

rFactor has been licensed in various guises up to and including being the base for the F1 simulators of established teams through the bespoke, completely custom and trade-only rFactor Pro.

SimRaceWay and a few other ready-built home simulator companies use rFactor as a base install for many of their systems because of the wide variety of cars and race tracks available through the work of countless numbers of enthusiasts and teams of gamers.

rFactor and rFactor 2 are but a few of the incredible variety of sims out right now. I like Project C.A.R.S. and some older commercial sims like GTR2, GT Legends and a few others.

Of course, I use iRacing as my primary sim because that's what I can train my clients on for factual, accurate representations of tracks, which is what a majority of the people I work with are trying to learn.

I have more fun with some rFactor mods, though... ;) Power & Glory Mod, PCC (Porsche Carrera Cup) Mod, various sports car and historic car mods...
