I ended up trying out "BlueDriver" and it works great. It pairs up to your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet. I used it on my iPhone and it was super easy to link up and start reading codes etc. (30 seconds). Very happy!

BlueDriver.net and it's also sold on Amazon.

Besides being able to check and clear codes, it shows you the following parameters in its live view mode:

    Fuel System Status
    Calculated Engine Load Value
    Engine Coolant Temperature

Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 1
Long Term Fuel Trim Bank 2
Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 1
Long Term Fuel Trim Bank 2

    Engine RPM
    Vehicle Speed
    Timing Advance for #1 cylinder
    Intake Air Temperature
    Mass Air Flow Rate
    Absolute Throttle Position

    O2 Bank 1 - Sensor 1 - Oxygen Sensor Voltage
    O2 Bank 1 - Sensor 1 - Short Term Fuel Trim
    O2 Bank 1 - Sensor 2 - Oxygen Sensor Voltage
    O2 Bank 1 - Sensor 2 - Short Term Fuel Trim

    O2 Bank 2 - Sensor 1 - Oxygen Sensor Voltage
    O2 Bank 2 - Sensor 1 - Short Term Fuel Trim
    O2 Bank 2 - Sensor 2 - Oxygen Sensor Voltage
    O2 Bank 2 - Sensor 2 - Short Term Fuel Trim

I have used Torque which is very similar app with a blue tooth reader and it works great on all the cars I have, other than my carburated 1982 of course.

I had a real nice dedicated OBDII with the printer and all, paid just over a grand for it, ebayed it after going to the ELM327 and torque. I can see all the data in several gauge, graph and trend displays, you can even do a test drive with several sensors plotted and send the data back to yourself. The reason it is only a few bucks is that all it needs to do is pick data off the bus and send it to the phone/tablet etc. that does all the work. Just get one and try it, its magic.

ok so then you must have to pay for the actual iPhone app?

the Bluedriver unit mentioned by OP is $99 on Amazon
but that's all in , the app and the plug.

Yes, Torque is about $5 in the app store. The combo units where you get the adapter and app, tend to be more user friendly centered around "what part do I get replaced because to the check engine light" and less about good diagnostic data. That is not an absolute truth, and there are allot of variables, but Torque and the ELM327 are pretty well known and solid. Bluedriver has a pretty good rep as well.

BlueDriver was super user friendly, that's why I went with it. Has great reviews as well (4.5 stars+ everywhere I look).

Some of the cheaper ones have some quirks (need to unplug or it drains battery, don't have auto power down etc.) but they do the job just the same.

There's pretty much nothing different than a wired $100+ scanner. I have a $500+ INNOVA scanner...I just didn't want to lug it around in the car. This little guy fits in my pocket...I just leave it in the car's tiny glove box between the seats for a rainy day.

I'd almost go as far as saying this is a must have in your car. If your check engine light ever comes on while you're on the road, doesn't hurt to know instantly what it's for. You can then decide whether to call a tow truck or if it's okay to drive home. :)

Made in China, and they use a copy cat ELM 327 chip that evades licensing. ;)
They are all over Ebay...I have a couple (I keep one in each car for emergencies). But I did order one that was defective...QC out of China can be dodgy at times...
