Went over this afternoon with some friends next to the Victoria Theatre. Heard they close @ midnight this weekend. These are rare cars from the German museum & if you're into 70/80s race era stuff go for it not much chance to view them otherwise. Isk, you must be one of them!

Think they're rivals for the then Kremer Porsche 935s etc.

I would pay Euro 250K for this Andy Warhol car but I have a feeling it's worth more.

Hello, this is Andy Warhol. Father of Modern Art IMO, remember those Campbell cans & colourful M.Monroe pictures? If they ever auction this car, it might make near a million USD.

I studied arts that's why willing to pay & he is a famous chap but died prematurely. His paintings are worth that much or millions & this is a one-off Z1 ex-race car. Collecting this is like a sculpture/art. Those others are equally accomplished artists.

Yup. Frank Stella's CSL has always been my favorite BMW Art Car too. :)

In fact, BMW raced a couple CSLs painted just like that back in 1976.

    Bro..it's an M1...

I've seen them before in DE, a long time ago. One of my faves was the WTC M635CSi with the 'Original Teile'(original spare parts) artwork. Something like Stella's 3.0CSL with the graph lines but with a sectional rendering of the motor, propshaft, seats et all, as if the car's X-rayed...!

Yup M1. Story is that they brought Andy Warhol to the car with the paint cans, etc. but he finished the car before the photographer arrived (I guess they also wanted to photograph him while he was doing the work).

Both Andy and Roy are from the Pop Art genre - Roy famous for his blown up "comic" panels.

The Stella car, I believe, is a 3.0CSL aka Batmobile (due to the spoilers, fins, etc.) on steroids. The collection you saw is but a small sampling of the entire collection. I think there's an E36 M3, an 8-series, and a few others.
IIRC, the last Art Car was a Le Mans Prototype but IMHO the design (Al foils with writing on 'em) pales in comparison to the other art cars.

The art cars aren't even on exhibit at the BMW Museum in Munich, at least on a regular basis when I was there a few years back. I don't think there's a real value on them, esp since a few of the artists are no longer around.

Yes the 15th Art Car, the BMW V12 LMR was done by Jenny Holzer. She put some of her famous Truisms on the car.

She is definitely one of my favorite contemporary artists. :)
