A while ago, I posted on my blog about the upcoming BMW CCA Track Day. Well, yesterday was the track day. Despite blistering cold, occasional flurries, and some water on the racing surface in the morning, JStone, my wife Keri and I had a blast.

I have not been on a track in a few years. The last time I went I was with Pchop at Watkins Glen driving the F355 with a bum alternator (That was expertly fixed by Steve Arena back when he was with Classic Coach). This time, Keri was driving the Ferrari (it was her first time out on a track) and I rocked the GT3 that I got a few months ago.

Keri will be doing a write up of her track day for someone. When it gets published, I'll post it up here. Needless to say, she had a great time and learned a tremendous amount. Plus, she's actually in LOVE with the F430 now. She's always liked that car (much more than anything else we've got including the Gallardo) but after really spending some time pushing it, she's got a new found respect. Hopefully, when I start in with "Let's buy the '430 Stradale'" she'll have less of an adverse reaction. :)

As for the GT3... I really love that car. It handled wonderfully and was an AMAZING experience. It's crisp in every way, clean in its feedback and very predictable in rsponse. The Cup tires mke a HUGE difference and I cannot wait until a WARM DAY so they can get some REAL traction.

I'm sad that I did not get the rollbar, seats and harnesses installed prior to the event, but this forced me to drive a bit more slowly. Still, this did not prevent me from spinning. Twice. The first time the result of me pushing things a bit too much. The second time as a result of some debris on the racing surface -- I later found out.

Attached are some pics. More can be found in a special online photo gallery

JStone: Post up your pics and tell everyone how much fun you had!

You guys who drive on the roads far too fast need to get your all-talk selves to the track.

Looked like an amazing time.. I am so pissed, I was suppose to be there but my bbs's and toyo ra1's never came, and my gt2 is far too scary on near bald ps1's let alone on a FAST track like Pocono North :( When is your next event?? Would love to head out to one with a fellow porsche guy :)

You're right. And as I said on e46... that GT3 is HOT! That's the only car I wouldn't hesitate to replace my M3 with, serious!

looks like a blast Emil. Let me know what your next track day is also. I would love to join. I was at lime rock last weekend and it was cold also, really looking forward to a warm day also.

Also, its nice to see a ferrari owner actually driving the car like its supposed to instead of it sitting in a garage.

Shivam there is a Pocono event in May if you are interested. Was considering WGI but I don't want to waste a day driving up.

Emil -- How as Pocono? What configuration did they run?

Whose event is in Pocono in May? What course are they running?

Watkins Glen is THE BEST track in the North East. It's a HELLUVA drive, but well worth it. I'm trying to find a weekend to get up there.

    North. Counter-clockwise.

At the May event the Track is controlled by the Corvette Club.

The Ferrari Club runs the track in June for Le Belle Macchine d'Italia on the 2.5 mile Road Course. Complete details available at www.italiancarsatpocono.com

Kerri and Emil were nice enough to invite me out with them to Pocono Raceway on Friday for the BMW Club event.

To put it simply, driving on a track humbles you quickly. It is a wonderful, safe, and fast way to find the limits of your car, learn how to be a more observant driver, and obviously have some fun!

I was in the novice with my e46 m3, running with Malibu Kerri's F430. Emil was in the advanced group in the GT3. If it were warmer out, I would have been able to see him run

It was a great time and I hope I can get out to Watkins Glen in June. A friend of mine is going to take me to Bella as well

will post more later but absolutely make it to the track. All you "driving fast on the road" people need to humble yourselves and get to the track. Drivng 160 mph on highway is nothing compared to taking a turn at 80 mph with your hair on fire!

Fast is going 30 mph into a corner that can only be taken at 20 mph!
