Does anyone know if there's a BMW chat similar (but obviously not superior to F-Chat)?
BMW, in their infinite wisdom, decided to put a plastic rear window in their Z3 convertable. They must have gotten the idea from the Brits who created an entire industry of clear plastic window cleaners/restorers for MG T series, MGA, etc. My wife has a 2003 Z3 which she loves, has run up about 110K miles and the rear window is now totally opaque. Checked with the dealer and they want a cool $1000 to replace. This on a car that might be worth $5 to $8K. I have no problem putting 50% of it's value into my 308QV but on a Bimmer? I figure a chat line similar to this one will have lots of guys/recommendations to solve this cheaper. Please let me know if you know the Bimmer sites.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Call Tony Garcia at Autobahn Interiors in San Diego. If it's possible, Tony can do it.

    Here is some info.

It can be done by yourself if you have some mechanical skills, a helper and go slow.

Some people have used a “Miata spec” window often sold on ebay, but they report that the zipper installation does not work well. I’d use the genuine BMW part.

Find a good, comprehensive auto upholstery shop. They often do convertible tops. Ask them if they have done a Z3. Many dealers contract out the convertible installation work to a mobile technical that goes from shop to shop. Call some BMW dealers and ask them whom they use.

Go on these two boards and ask for recommendations for independent shops.

Here are two very good boards.

    Z3 rear window

the best product I have used on my 98 Z3 rear window is the one sold by BMW dealers, convertible window cleaner. It goes on nicely, cleans the window and is easy to remove without streaking or drying out.

    Good luck
