Unless Red Bull does an engine deal with somebody else, I think they would be a prime candidate for BMW engines
pitpass.com suggested that the so far invisible "Dubai F1" team might be/come a candidate...... (....or was that an April fools joke.......)
I was just going to say this - I thought Ferrari didn't want to sell to Sauber anymore, and then I noticed a Petronas sticker on the BMW car... maybe BMW buys out Sauber and makes a BMW-Petronas team.
It is more than speculation at the moment, it is a realistic option and one that would make me very happy. I love to see more car manufacturers duking it out. If only Porsche and Audi would join in.
The Williams BMW doesn't have a Petronas (malaysian company) sticker. It has a Petrobras sticker.(brazilian company) pic: http://www.f1racing.net/en/photolarge.php?photoID=42236&catID=18
That would be great. It's too bad Ford let the Jag team die - they should have gotten a "Ford" team together to coincide with the Ford GT's release and tried to beat Ferrari again, 40 years later.
There are NO Petronas stickers on BMW WILLIAMS CARS! BMW Williams is sponsored by BR PETROBRAS = Brazilian Petroleum Company Sauber - Petronas is sponsored by Petronas = Malaysian Petroleum company Different companies, Different Logos, Different Colors! As long as Petronas is sponsoring Sauber there will never be any other engine besides Ferrari. Sauber will have to look somwhere else for sponsorship. The other option is as discussed, BMW could buy out Sauber. It is a possibility but will require a large BMW factory based commitment that I think the BMW group is not ready for. The Dubai F1 group is getting ready and has already indicated towards using BMW engines as an option several times. The Dubai F1 group is also considering Ferrari and Mercedes as potential engine partners.
It would be nice to see Porsche in F1, but I don't think they have the financial resources to throw on an F1 team. They would need to spend at least $250 Million to be competitive. Plus Porsche is too busy building Cayennes (?sp) ;-) .
I've always wanted BMW to make their own car. The only reason I started to watch F1 was because BMW entered with its engine. BMW should pull their engines from Williams and start their own team, I would prefer no more rolling chassis teams.
