I've searched the archives. Keeping the "unloved" tradition alive, anyone have any experiences with the M coupe? I'm 90% sure that I am going to get another E36 M3/4 for a daily driver when I get back, but there should be room for two more cars as my wife's stepdad has already told me that there is no way he's letting me get my Carrera 4 back (it took me all of 0.0045 seconds to say OK to that one).

A couple years ago I wanted an S54 M coupe! Almost bought one, but ended up picking up my 944 turbo and passing on the M coupe. Anyways the S54 is a monster. Very fast and very fun! Although it is small and the looks are not for everyone! They do not hold their value very well so you can pick up an S54 for a good price! Even an S52 is a blast! Either way if you do not care about the lack of space I would say go for it!

I personally love the E46 M3 SMGII. Incredibly fun car.

The new M5; well that will be mind-blowing. 7 speed SMG gearbox, 507 horsepower 90 degree V10...

and only a few months away! :D

Too much electronic crap. I have a Mondial 8 for crying out loud, I don't need to loose my hair any faster.

I want something a little simpler.

No, that's the Ferrari Daytona you are thinking about. The M Coupe is
the squat little thing that goes like stink and is rare to find :)

If you are going E36 M3, make sure you get a late Euro spec car. They had a 315 or so hp engine while the US spec still had 'merely' 240.

Erik, I had an early (240hp) roadster. It was loads of fun. The later 315hp cars must be even more so. Love the "oddball" look of the coupe!

Never owned one - but thought about it hard. They are a little cramped and BMW's high clutch engagement point does not help. They are fun little things - even the non-M versions. I did not care one bit for the roadsters - but the coupes are special.

It would be a great choice. I remember reading a test in a British car mag ("Car" I think) that rated the MCoupe as the purest driving experience in an M car.

I used to hate that thing when it came out but now I really love it. Get one in black...

I'm into month 6 with mine as my daily driver.

It's a blast. Got the SMG because of the stop and go traffic that impedes my ride to work, but, once I get on the highway, it takes off.

Back road driving is excellent with the SMG also.

IMO, the smg shifts much better than the Maser box. Smoother, quicker, and $40K less. I haven't driven the '05 maser, though.

Gorgeous car, but I think they are talking about a different car -- the BMW Z3 Coupe, M-version.

I'm okay with the US spec E36 M3, I had one before. 240 hp is enough for what I am going to be using it for.

    Thanks,
    Erik

Must be my drug addled brain.

The oxycodone must be working. Kills pain, kills brain cells, whatever.

Yes everyone, its the clown shoe/baseball cap/penis car that I am interested in. The styling has grown on me (and it still looks better than some of the Bangle stuff).

Cliff, was it usable as a daily driver? I've heard the visibility isn't so good, true? Any problems specific to the model?

    Thanks everyone,
    Erik

Look into the issue of rear suspension mounts, IIRC.

I saw a M coupe doing autocross this morning. It sounded like it had a supercharger, did they have come stock with one?

No stock supercharger, but I believe that Dinan was a tuner that would install them for quite a price. About 5 yrs ago in South Florida I saw a black one.

I think the M Coupe is a terrific value, especially the 315 hp car made at the end of their run. I hope you're not too tall, though. With some of the funky and retro looks of today's car, the M Coupe doesn't look all that bad.
