The front is unmistakingly BMW but the rear could be a NSX. What is it? Never seen it before... /Peter
I have always loved the M1, and it is most certainly a collector's car. Footnote: If you take an NSX's specification sheet and compare it to an M1's, they are almost identical!
I've always loved the M1s - never seen one on the road or much less parked in a used car dealers lot. What was he asking for it?
along with lambos and f-cars, i grew up adoring the lotus esprit and the M1. might be tempted to trade my fiat for it...
I'ts a Nazca C2, a concept car ItalDesign came up with in the 90s. Midengined BMW V12 and a terrible gearbox by all accounts.
I like the outside. Not some much the inside. Pic's from Symbolic Motorcars website. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have a buddy with an M1. He says one of the big draws is virtually all the components are off the shelf from more common cars (interestingly, not just BMWs) so except for body parts, pretty easy and relatively cheap to keep up.
Take off that spoiler and that is one sweet looking track car. I dunno how it would look on the road but I think a nice ///M job like that would look sweet on a track. Just like the star spangled Lambo, it looks odd on the street but right at home on a track.
I own 2 M1's and you would be hard pressed to find such a unique car for the money.They handle fantastic,very easy to drive and are low maintenance. If you are looking to buy the car in the picture find out how long it has been sitting around without being driven.The gas tanks tend to rust if the car sits for too long and all the hoses will need to be replaced
That Italdesign Nazca was "supposed" to be what the Bugatti EB110 would end up looking like. Eventually, Bugatti did their own thing, for better of for worse. Anyhow, I think the Nazca is just a prototype, not street legal. Only time I've "seen" it on the road was during the french Supercar Rally, along with a bunch of other concepts.
The BMW M1 was an amazing car at the time. It had mind-blowing performance, back when they were made, however, they are not a car you can drive everday, more of a track car.
don't forget the m1 was built with contract work through lamboghini. i have never seen one but would love to have one. based on the parts availablitiy and practicality, they sound like great cars.
How would you know??? You can drive them everyday no problem at all.There is very little that goes wrong with them
Here's one.. http://www.dupontregistry.com/search/srDetails.asp?itemid=61946&sessionkey={B15BC363-5D10-4008-80EC-48C92A77D8C4}
Bill Warner, founder and chairman of the Amelia Island Concours, in Florida has owned an orange M-1 for several years. KevFla
My brother has an M1 (in fact, my Boxer is parked next to it at his shop right now). It makes an interesting comparison with the Boxer-- both were built around the same time, similar money (then and now). We drove them back to back one day, and my impression was that the ergonomics in the M1 were much worse than the Boxer (surprising, I know). I am 6'4", and to drive the M1 I had to take my shoes off, and my head was against the roof. In the boxer, headroom is a little tight but plenty of leg room. The M1 just seemed much more cramped. The Boxer also feels faster, and IMO has a nicer sound. When you get the revs up in the M1 it goes pretty well, and it does have a neat growl that starts around 4-5k. I don't know how reliable it is. I don't believe it is much better or worse than any other exotic, maybe parts are a bit cheaper.
80's....wow, i thought it'd be alot more than that after i read this.."Between the years of 1978 and 1981, there were 455 BMW M1's manufactured by BMW Motorsport. The M1 with its throaty 6 cylinder engine and great styling makes it an easy car to love."......still 277hp in 1978 from and inline 6 is incredible........wonder what it made in full race trim... 455 produced,47 procars which leaves 408 street cars The engine in the M1 is the precursor to the M6 motor.The M1 engine produces 277hp officially but they were closer to 300. All M1's are dry sumped whereas the M5 and M6 are not.Also the head is slightly different and the engines in the M5 and M6 are slanted whereas in the M1 they are straight.M5 and M6 engines produced 256hp in US trim and 286hp in the Euro version
I am considering getting one instead of a Boxer/TR, but I need to see if I fit (me 6'2" 210 pounds). Cool car.
