The number by itself meant nothing except that it's compared to other M3s. The CSL had 215 rear wheel kw. A standard M3 has 195 and there was a freak with 200 (but different muffler). All measured on the same dyno. An extra 15-20kw means the claim of BMW of the amount of HP a CSL has over a standard M3 is correct. What is converts to in flywheel power is anyone's guess.
KW (not kw*) is a measure of power, lb-ft is a measure of torque, ft-lb is a measure of energy. K is for Killo : measn 1000 of something W is for Watt (as in James Watt the invventor of the steam engine)
I believe 300 KW is 408 BHP....not positive...but does that seem about right? 996 turbo (europe) claims 309 KW....
that means they are within 20-30 hp of a stradale? wow...guess they are making around 400 ferrari horses!
Absolutely no way is it making the horsepower of a 360, never mind a 355!! Top speed of a 355 down the straight at PI is 245, M3 240. 360's significantly faster....i think 250. FYI F40 was doing over 265. The claimed FWHP for the CSL is 360hp.
I think Aircon meant Flywheel HP not Front wheel HP ... (?) Aircon, Also top speed on a straight is affected by corner exit speed on to the straight. I would assume that a mid-engined Ferrari would have a slightly better exit speed and thus give it a head start on the top speed battle. Pete
How do you convert these numbers to the American Standard of HP and lb-ft torque? You could tell me it has 1000KW power and it doesnt mean anything when referring to the power of a car. When I lived in Japan they always referred to horse power in PS and torque in KW. That is the reason why I asked.
Uh, it's called sarcasm. We're making fun of Ferrari's grossly inflated flywheel HP ratings as evidenced by the Stradales that have been dyno'd to date.
Would the "slippier" body of the 360 aid in the acceleration at high speeds? Or do the M3 CSL and the 360 CS have about the same Cd?
ATBNM3, Suggest you follow this linke: http://members.iinet.net.au/~lmj43mst49/pages/converter.html Pete
What times are you getting at the island? I hit 280kmh running a 1:40. The exit from MG and the drive you get from there on in is critical to a fast lap.
