True, but there you’re paying for the content (usually more content than you wanted but…) BMW is basically making you pay to use hardware you already bought.

Maybe we can subscribe to the water pump to get full value out of the coolant.

It is far cheaper for the manufacturer to build one car..all options installed..then it is to build 5 different versions.

The ability to turn stuff off and on via subscription is very profitable. The manufacturer builds the car complete with all options, and prices it accordingly. Then add the subscription service on top of the price...money..money..money.

We the consumer are idiots. Which is why we have a Ferrari or 2. They know this..so they will continue to pull every last dime they can from our collective wallets..and for some reason..we are happy to give it to them.

Has BMW dropped ''ultimate driving machine'' yet? Certainly seems the time to do it, anyways.

    True!

I really can't see myself buy a new car again in the very near future. Few new cars these days interest me anyways, and scummy tactics like this put me off even more.

Using an essential option for subscription fees is predatory certainly Not a good look for BMW
They should charge fees on options that are more non essential in nature but interesting to have

My understanding is that if you order the heated seats at the time of purchase, you will not be considered a subscriber for that feature. You will simply be charged the option price for the seats.

Toyota completely reworked that engine for the supra because it was not even close to Toyota standards. The bones of the engine are very good...the rest was junked and reworked. No Toyota owner is going to put up with the oils leaks and Vanos issues that engine has in the BMW product.

Why is that M3 so quiet? Oh he forgot to make his exhaust payment this month to keep the exhaust valve open.

Make no mistake..there will be ways around paying for these items.

Heated seats require power..ground and a switch..I would assume easily hotwired..unless the power runs through a module that is constantly monitored by BMW via the satnav uplink..I'm sure they have thought of ways to make it difficult..but there is always a work around.

The best workaround is not to buy BMW.
They havent really made a great car since the e46 anyway.

If they don't care enough about the car to build it themselves it's hard to believe it's not the same B58 off the line as everything else.

I can imagine a new “Hack My Ride” show for BMW buyers.

    You could host…

The ultimate driving machine became the ultimate leasing machine.
Cant think of a single car they make Id really like to own.
I guess the x5 with v8 is kinda good if you want and suv
Their best car is the M2, and noiw thats crap, the interior looks like a digital nightmare of an electric car, how does this work with a stick and ice engine.
Ford seems to have done the same with the mustang, lost the plot.
If Gm keeps the camro in production sales will rise, at this point its better than the other two.
