Great topic. I'm looking at the diesel as well. Don't have any experience witht he X5d, but have a bit with the 335d and it was pretty fun. Hopefully some people on here can provide some insight.

Had a X5, 35d for about 2 years. 69k miles of enjoyable driving. Never had a problem with it and the mpg has improved over the years. Now it gets around 29 mpg highway and about 23 city. Pretty good overall. I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. I also can get 5-600 miles on a tank so it is nice not to have to fill up all the time. No issues.

    My wife has a 2012.

She loves it. Awesome torque and good gas mileage.

Thanks for the feedback guys...I was actually next to one at a traffic light yesterday and i was a bit shocked at how loud it was compared to what i remember the 335d being like. Is the engine very loud inside or no?

No. Not loud at all. Hardly noticeable.

Louder than a petrol X5 yes, also louder than a 335d. I don't find it too loud, especially compared to any sports cars. The car has steadily gotten smoother and more efficient once passing 50k. Now it is quieter and easily gets 3-4 more mpg than when it was first purchased.

Just a random- coins can fall into the slot in front of the cup holder and end up under the center console, results in a rolling noise when accelerating and braking.

    Really love it.

True, but i'd rather listen to a sports car or a really loud diesel than just a constant slight ticking from a smaller diesel. I'm sure it isn't bad though, so that's what is important. I was just a bit surprised how much louder it seemed than the 335d from the outside. It sounds like a pretty solid truck, definitely will be looking into it more. I was thinking of CPO, but i hear bmw is discounting them pretty heavily.
