    Hello,

I had a question for any one who owns a boat or works in the boating industry. I am a recent college graduate and I would love to get a job as a boat designer. Does anyone know any boat designers or does anyone here design boats? I am looking for some advice on how to go about applying for a position. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    -Zack

What was your major?, I hope something in the marine engineering field. Most boat designers are naval architects, several good schools here in the USA. I would check with Brunswick Corp, they own Sea Ray and Hatteras (for which I am a dealer) and several other brands. Be prepared to start at the bottom of the totem pole and work your way up! Its a very competitive market, and the boat biz is not booming by any means.

PM me with any questions, be happy to help

Not to be negative, but can't imagine a harder field to get into currently...

    Good luck.

Thank you both for your replies. I recently graduated with a BS in Industrial Design, and I want to gain some professional experience before I go back to school for my masters. The reason I asked about boat design is because eventually, I plan on going back to school for either marine architecture or some type of engineering. I've heard of boat manufacturers who hire industrial designers to aid the engineers and to work on small details such as dashboards, seating, and other components, but i'm having a hard time finding companies who have openings. I realize it's difficult to find a job, especially with the current state of the economy, but my goal is to gain 3-5 years of experience before I move on with more schooling. again thank you and if there's anything else that anyone would like to add, feel free to post your thoughts or advice.
