Word around the camp fire is the Boca Raton Concours is no more. The Case family and Boys & Girls Club just want to do gala dinner with entertainment, eliminating the Concours altogether. They’re going to try to do a C&C type event off campus and re-set their sights for 2025. This was personally confirmed to me yesterday by none other than Russell Glace. BHW
I think it had more to do with Boys and Girls Club management, although nobody’s saying that on the record, than with the Case family. There are rumors that the concours might be re-sited to the Nova University campus but that won’t have the caché that the Boca Raton Hotel and Club has. It’s a shame. A lot of people built the event into a recognized concours. I exhibited at the first two shows although I’m not a concourse enthusiast. I just wanted to support it.
Correct, I had incorrectly assumed that Rick Case was the owner of the event and the benefitting charity was B&GC. As it turns out B&GC are in fact the owners of the event and Rick Case threw his weight behind it and was the glue keeping it together. Entered cars in the event a couple of times and found it unusual that any time there was communication with organizers, we were talking with the head of B&GC Palm Beach County and not someone from the Case staff. They were all very nice but obviously not car people. We'll see what happens, fun while it lasted. BHW
Competitive space here with all of our events. That time of year is jam packed with a lot of shows. Although I wouldn't have personally bet on the Boca Concours to be the first to bow out. I'm surprised any survive at all given what I imagine would be a very high overhead/cost of operations now.
My understanding is that BGC still wants a fundraising event at BRH&C…but without the cars. There seems to be a disagreement between the organizers and the desires of the BGC board. I don’t know who actually owns the event. It sounds similar to the conflict between the Amelia Island concours and its main beneficiary, the hospice I think, years ago. Maybe the organizers of the Boca concours should seek a beneficiary more aligned with the show’s objectives.
