    hi everybody,

i've looked at dozens of pictures of carbed 75-79 308 GTBs and 1983-1985 308 GTB QVs and i feel the body shape is slightly different. have i been staring too long at too many pictures?

i can't find any info on this, but it seems the biggest difference is between the windshield and the rear pillars. the carbed car looks like it has a shorter (vertically) window than the QV. am i seeing things?

i like the GTBs and i would like a carbed car, but somehow prefer the look of the QV (wheels are an obvious difference, not counting that). any ideas on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

the only differences between the years are the louvers on the bonnet in the rear and hood (yes or no) and color of louvers behind the lights.

    Otherwise you're seeing things.

Bumpers/grills went thru some changes as well, getting bigger and different lower front grill....... as noted the major sheet metal is all the same, except the flush exterior door handles, whatever year that was introduced (328?)

One other thing. The rear bumpers. The carb car have just a bumper. The QV's have small bumper covers just above the bumper and a "mini" challange grill, for lack of a better term between the body and bumpber and between the bumper covers.

thanks guys. i was hoping i was seeing things. i'm leaning towards a carb GTB with potentially putting on QV wheels. probably the nicest looking car ever made....

Beginning in '78, US cars are also fitted with a big, ugly black, muffler cover. I used to own a 77 and an 85 GTB. If you go for a carb car, I recommend pre-cat 76-77. There are major differences in the interiors, however. 16 inch wheels help both the handling and appearance of early 308's.

    John,

Hardtop and Bubba are referring to this early (fiberglass) GTB rear valance. The early steel versions have an additional slotted louver as seen in the second picture.

I've compared my fiberglass car to the steel version and I think the front fender flares have just a bit more flare than the steel version.

'77 and earlier also have higher lift cams and more power than the '78/79 cars.

If you want a carb'd B, find a '77. Less emmisions (as in-take off the air pumps and they're ALL GONE) and more power. Also, being 27+yrs old means they are exempt from emmisions testing in a lot of states.

Who was looking at a blue on in Oregon recently?

i was told in the thread "My second Ferrari Purchase" in GFD that the car was most likely sold at Ferrari of San Diego. if i had the car and the promised documents, i would let everyone know. its tuesday. no car yet.
i really appriciate the info about Hollywood Sportscars, (THANK YOU!) when i finally get the car, it will be interesting to see if it has any import stickers or paperwork left. car came from Upland California. i dont know how folks wait on lists for the new super duper Fcars. the waiting really is not fun. not hearing from the transport guy for 4 days REALLY sucks. grrrrrrrrrrrr.
