I had a rather annoying day to Watkins Glen yesterday. Anyone have a spare 308 QV GTS right side and rear? Or perhaps a great car that needs a new engine/trans?

    Sorry to hear..
This guy http://www.ferrariservice.com/ deals with a lot of used parts, His website does not list anything right now, but perhaps he has something that is unlisted. His name is Mike.
There is another place in Roseville, Ca, but their prices seemed high.

I have a 77 308 GTB that I was going to restore. I bought a matching parts car but things have reversed. The first car I believe I am going to part with, but fear of not having future spare parts has me greedy. If you only needed the bare chassis or so, I might be able to be convinced. PM me

As anyone worked with the 288GTO panels as sold by Italian Design? If so, what has been your experience?

    PAD,

i am guessing you have the blue car? If so, am glad you are ok and never found out how the driver was. As for the 288GTO panels i hear they are ok but you might need to do some small fitting work. Try AllFerrariParts.com as he has 'junker' 308 cars and might be able to pull the parts you need.

Again, am glad to hear you are ok.

PS: color me jealous of all that engine work you did. BTW, it seems over 10 cars had separate incidences this past weekend... me included :(

Yes, Paul has the blue car. Fortunately, other than a few aches, he seems to have come through it fine. More than can be said for the car. Definitely took a hit in the right rear corner. Saw the car yesterday. Not a pretty sight, especially since I helped Paul do a lot of the engine and transmission work and was personally feeling rather proud seeing the car run as well as it was on the track.

And you are right, but it was more like 12 or 13 incidents. Very unusual for an FCA event. 25% of all of the cars having accidents?? Never happens. One or two is a lot at their events. For some reason, the track was very slick in a number of spots. Even Friday before the rain, the track was very slick. Several times I was glad I had the competitive mode active handling on the Corvette, as it saved me from sliding out and adding to the list of off-road excursions.

Am glad to hear he is ok. Cars can be replaced, fixed, etc. Usually 1 or 2 is about it for virtually all the events i have attended (COMSCC, SCDA and FCA plus open track days at NHIS). Due to this weekend finally got off my wallet and got HANS during the event.

BTW, got back to the hotel to meet my wife and told her i feel/look 'shell shocked' from seeing Pauls car. Seeing it being towed in the pits haunted me for hours upon hours... Must admit this year has been filled with over 25 great days of track sessions. This past weekend got me back to the reality of how dangerous our sport can be.

Agreed the track was all over the place. Have data acquisition + video of the entire weekend. The very last session (Sunday at 3:30pm) for the green/white group shows the track was fairly dry, then 1/2 of the track dry and the other 1/2 wet, then all wet, then harder rain. Each lap was different in grip and line than the one before it.

Watkins Glen was truly throwing at us everything and the proverbial kitchen sink. Am glad everyone came out ok and no one was seriously injured. Thanks for the update on Paul and glad to see he is ok.

Paul, was it at turn 11 or ???

    Steve,

I spun out on the left hander before the straight - turn 10. Of all the turns, that one never gave me any problems - until Sunday, that is. Street tires and a cold track to not mix well.

One option that I am considering is parting out the car. There are a lot of specialty parts in the car, such as a new EFI engine (200 miles), complete Electromotive TEC3 system, new trans, Accusump, Tilton adjustable brake system, Coleman IV brakes and rotors, roll bar, and special springs and shocks to name some of the extra stuff. Any feedback on what the car parted out might be worth? I want to weigh my options.

    Pad,

Selling the used tweak parts can be interesting, but as you know the market is small and odds are you will not get back 60% of what you have in them (maybe 50% except for the engine which if you find an eager buyer could get 70% but then what are you calculating for the labor?).

If the frame is not too badly bent, a few body panels should not be THAT expensive per se. How bad is she?

The frame is not that bad. It appears to have been move about an inch. I'm getting some pricing on body parts - both stock and custom. I know what it will cost to do the frame. Also exploring getting another car and putting in the new engine/trans and performance parts. Just keeping all my options open.

Wow, i'd think the labor to MOVE all those parts to a new chassis is quite high compared to banging back the frame and replacing a few body panels. Of course you could also add rear brake NACA cooling ducts during the rebuild. That is planned for the car here during the winter. Do you have front cooling ducts? If not, i have a easy 'trick' of using the fog lights. Lemme know if you want more info.

Paul, sorry to hear about your car, I have a complete back section off of one of my own 308's that I am re bodying to a 288 GTO. You may also want to consider a 288 re body now, I have the OEM panels & can get everything you need, I have most of it in stock. Call me 360 410 1949

ALSO just so everyone knows our 288 GTO panels are off an Original 288 from Jim Carpenter. We are just starting production on our "HOT ROD 358's & 398's". (There should be 2 cars at Monterey next year on display)
They feature a 288gto STYLE BODY KIT with a Forza 3.5-liter or a 3.9-liter engine.

Paul, I'm very sorry to hear your weekend went bad.

I have a rear bumper on my car from Italian Design and it's a nice piece, much nicer than the Jim carpenter front bumper and valance I also have. Italian Design just changed hands, I've spoken to the new owners, but haven't dealt with them.

There is another company too the specailized in track body stuff....man I can't remember the name...it was in a post a year or 2 ago. They have light weight stock panels flared panels. Hopefully someone can remember the aname or point you toward the post.

The cheapest way to get back on the track is probably to pull all your goodies and partout what's left. Then buy a non or barry running 2Vi with fair paint and a trashed interior for about $10k or maybe less. Oh, or after you get the 2vi, move all the stock stuff to the QV and sell it on ebay, I'll bet you get $6-$8k for it.
