Can you take the front and real valances (I dont know if this is what you call it but the stuff below the bumpers) off a 1986 Mondial and just bolt it onto a 1984?

I have a 1984 QV and have spotted a wrecked 1986 that still has these in tack.

    Thanks.

FChatter Andrewg posted in the 'Let's see our Mondials' showroom thread that he was doing the later bumper upgrade to his earlier Mondial during a rebuild a couple of mos ago and that the brackets do not line up exactly - would suggest a pm to him for details. That said, here is a picture of another FChatters M8/qv that was converted to 3.2 bumpers.
good luck and let us know!

Royhanks, it's more than just the valance. To be specific, the f & r items you're referring to are, in fact, the bumpers in addition to the "valance" if you will. In other words, you're not just updating a valance and leaving the bumper itself intact, you are, in fact replacing the entire assembly including the bumper itself. Incidentally, these items on the later cars are surprisingly non-substantive, meaning, really just a bunch of flimsy fiberglass masquerading as a bumper. Frankly, I'm surprised that this setup ever made it past the DOT bumper crash tests.

When I read the title I thought this was going to be more interesting.

Like Einstein said, interesting is relative.

    Royhanks,

If they are parting out the car, check the fuse box. You might want to grab it, especially if it has the spade fuses rather than the old bullet fuses we have in our '84's. You might want to try to grab some of the engine parts as spares as well.

    Hi all

Yep I am doing the body upgrade, I took a crusty Mondy Qv in part exchange last year and decided it was worth rebuilding rather than parting out (it was identical to the first Ferrari I drove so thought what the hell its only mony :p ). I'm in the process of doing a write up for velostrada so all the points will be covered there (but that wont be for a month or two)

To mount the bumpers you need to re-jig a few of the mountings and more importantly the front and rear valances as the new bumpers wont fit over the top, its not a terribly hard procedure but will require some welding skills and a bit of latteral thinking. if you do get the bumpers from the scrap car make sure you also get the lights and grills, whilst the guys at F.UK do have that sort of thing in stock and they do give Fchatters a decent discount / price, it still adds up to a fair few beer tokens

You may want to make really sure your bodywork isnt rusty underneath as the front and rear lower valances are known for rotting out

    Regards

Sorry if I offended but it was 2am my time and I hoped for something more extreme than a bumper upgrade...

Hey, that's right in your neighborhood, isn't it? BTW, just how exciting did you expect a thread in the technical section called "Body update for an '84 Mondial" to be??? LOL

Zertec, no offense. Us Mondial owners have a more subdued existence than the 308/328 folks so we get excited about stuff like bumper upgrades!

    You sick puppy!
That isn't too far from here and the individuals and organisation who carried out the atrocity turn me cold with loathing.
