The main Boeing factory that saw the building of many historic aircraft is to be demolished. The B-17, Mod 299, was born there in 1935, the 307, 367, 377, B-29, B-50, and the B-52 all started there. I started there in 1950.

Well, seeing as Boeing is offloading and subcontracting everything out they'll either sell off the land or lease it to another airport entity....(or use it to store the backlog of unfinished/undelivered 787's).

Plant 2 is located at Boeing Field in Seattle which is actually the Municipal airport for King County

I guess that I should have described the location of the factory better. Plant 1 was on the Duwamish River in pre war days. That is where all the classics were built before 1935-6, All of the early stuff like the PW-9, P-12, F4B-4, Mod 40, Mod 80, , the 314,etc.
Plant 2 was built on the flats along the Duwamish west of the early airport that is now called Boeing Field, King County Municipal.
Plant 1 was unused for a while and it was going to be demolished until somebody started to think with their brain and figured that it should be kept for posterity. The 1914 building was moved to its present location at the Museum of Flight on Boeing Field. I worked in the old Plant 1 building in 1952 when I was working on the Boeing 502 Gas Turbine. I worked in Plant 2 on the B-52 and RB-50's and in all other plants on all sorts of other stuff...KC-135, C5, SST, 707, 727, 747...

Since Plant 2 is on the west side of East Marginal Way, it isn't technically on Boeing Field, proper, so I don't think that its land belongs to the county, at least not yet. When was the last time that it was used for its intended purpose?

Correct, it does not belong to the county but it's proximity is still highly coveted.

Jim, I was recounting the earlier days when things weren't as clearly defined as they are now or when so many roads and fences existed. Yes, the property has nothing to do with Boeing Field but the proximity is historically associated with it. I think that Spasso is correct, it will probably be relegated to some related industrial use. A sad thought.
