Hello everyone, I have the head of some of my studs that are rusting, I imagine I am not the only one?
what did you do to avoid this?
If you had to change them all, where to find them? It's really not cheap, should you consider buying titanium?
My vehicle is fitted as standard, so no chocks or “spacers”

Your referring to the head of the bolts that the socket goes on to remove the bolts that hold the wheels? They get nicked from the socket yes, I believe Hill or Griot's Garage sells a socket that reduces that. They have plastic on the inside and the outside.

According to the description, there’s only an outer nylon sleeve so this wouldn’t help with scratching the lug bolt head itself.

I was always under the impression that the metal was soft aluminum on the inside and the reason it didn't scratch

Ivan, your missing what the actual problems is and how those solve it. The aluminum is only part of it Dominick.

Fully agreed - I’m not sure I understand what the problem is and whether it’s rust on the lug bolts or the wheel socket or both. Maybe a photo would help?

What causes the bolts to rust is the corners of the bolts. Those sockets are radiused so the corners do not touch the socket. The flat part of the socket is typically not what rusts. If a socket was plastic you would not have very much luck torquing them. Those sockets solve the problem of the lug nut corners getting chipped up from a standard socket.

Take a close look at the inside of the socket it will make sense.

The Hill Engineering wheel bolts are far superior to OEM wheel bolts in the chrome plating department. And I use the HE chrome saver socket, with no rattle gun.

They are relatively cheap as well.
