Thanks KennyH,It's cool to know his friend got the F40. is that current market value for the F40 or did he actually pay a bit more?just curious. I wanted that 288GTO dangit. Frankie.
The F40's price is about current market price in Europe, especially considering that this was a high profile auction where such cars tend to make more than through private sales. Jack

Kenny, Thanks for the info. The Daytona spyder conversion brought about $196k? That sounds really strong. Any details about this car?
Greetings, The prices you have posted are incorrectly computed. The subsequent post on conversion rates from CHF has the exchange rate upside down although you got it right in making the conversions. It was CHF1=US$0.8079 on the date of the auction. The comment on the Yuan (the old name; currently it's called the Renminbi) is amusing. "strangling the US $"? I don't think so. It doesn't float, it's pegged to the US$ and is essentially the same today as it was in 1998 at 8.27 to the dollar. Here is an accurate report of the sale results including the correct commission of 16% of the first CHF70,000 and 11% of anything over, converted at the exchange rate on the date of the sale, CHF1=US$0.8079 (source, Wall Street Journal). Note that the buyer's commission stated in the catalog for automobiles may include the Swiss VAT of 7.6% on the buyer's commission. I have asked Bonhams for clarification and will restate the results if it's 15%/10% exclusive of VAT on the commission.
