Some may be of the opinion this car no longer exists as depicted in the below photos (which were all taken back in December 2015). However, in the spirit of full disclosure and transparency, here's the true state in which 56651 has spent /lived the vast majority of its life. Tarting up a car during the previous few months for purposes of conveying it in its best optimized light for its upcoming auction appearance doesn't obviate its true essence.

The final sentence in the Bonhams catalogue description proclaims, "Do not miss this chance to acquire what very well may be the greatest of its kind."

Very interesting when I look at the pictures per the auction site!

The car does seem to have an interesting history though and one owner from new might be worth a premium however the pictures in this thread...

Its a 30 year old car for heavens sake, so its had a recent cosmetic makeover, big deal, do you think every car of that age is an untouched virgin?

Any buyer of cars of this value will have it properly inspected anyway and be aware its had paint and a tidy up.

Quite a spiteful thing to do actually, reads like a touch of malice to be honest, whats your previous link/ beef with it or maybe the owner?

    Yeah, quite normal wear-and-tear for a sub-5,000-mile car . . .

Ah so you are now claiming its speedometer has been tampered with?

Have you tried in the past to purchase this car and been turned down? whose photos are those you posted?

I believe the odometer. Repeated race track usage obviously accelerates wear.

My own photos, shot by me personally.

Were you viewing on the basis of purchasing the car when taking the photos? was a deal not concluded?

Had you purchased the car as viewed/photographed would you have then made these photos public at any point or upon resale?

Sour grapes then I guess is the conclusion as to why this thread was started.

If you had actually owned this car then decided to refresh it prior to sale, what would you think if someone who had looked at it beforehand decided to splash the photos they had taken of it on the internet prior to said sale?

Have you ever restored anything? house/car/boat/motorbike/yourself? what if someone then decided to post pre resto pics up to try and affect your sale, how would you feel about that?

Are you questioning/doubting the veracity/genuineness of the photos?

I've yet to encounter any one-owner sub-5,000-mile 288 GTO, or for that matter any other 1980s or later Supercars with such mileage which require such a magnitude/scale of corrective/restorative work.

No, I am questioning your clear desire to denigrate the car for some reason by posting this thread.

I ask again if you had bought the car as per your photos and then tidied it up, would you have still published the photos come sale time for potential buyers to see?

    I think not.........

    Your dead wrong.

I'm a strong proponent and believer in full disclosure and full transparency, especially as it relates to the collector car hobby.

I think the photos are great as fchat should be a place of inside knowledge. I can't imagine any of that stuff would scare many people away as its all pretty minor stuff and obviously a touch up is pretty normal before a sale. As long as it hasn't been crashed hard and not disclosed. Not sure what sort of engine checks you can do before the sale.

Track use in supercar doesn't seem out of the ordinary:). At least it was inside a garage and not out:): http://www.carbuildindex.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/540.jpg

Sure. But not as it relates to political contributions, right?

    Paul,

His previous link/beef with the owner is that he tried to buy the car from him last December 2015 (the point at which he took these images), and failed.

The owner instead decided to refresh the car for the purposes of selling it at auction, as is his prerogative.

He then decided to malign the car to multiple people (who shared this with me), and myself included.

I can put anyone who wants to know the truth in touch with the original owner of this GTO, the consignor himself, Ed Regner.

I have no affiliation with this car, besides the fact that the original owner has reached out to me for help and to consider his options.

Was simply asked a $500 favor by a very good friend, as were literally dozens of others.

    Wow.

What happened to the "full disclosure and full transparency" you are so passionate about then?

What about the multiple parties, myself included, who you have actively tried to malign this car to, AFTER failing to buy it, in the condition you are currently disparaging.

    Wow.

Never was any maligning done. The photos are merely a 100% truthful and accurate depiction of the car as of December 2015, and simply speak for themselves, etc.

Sending the images to three (3) separate parties accompanied by damaging and disparaging remarks, after failing to buy a car, in the same condition as the one you are currently portraying is not maligning?

Perhaps others will soon be deciding the facts for themselves.
