Thought I would throw up a post regarding a bad (odor) situation I encountered recently.

I got my F430 back from service and for some odd reason when I opened the trunk (boot) it had an odd smell (almost urine like). I finally came to the conclusion (too much time on my hands?) that they put the cover on the car (wishful thinking I know but humor me for a bit...it was there for 2 weeks) and the rear corner of the cover was "defiled" by some four legged creature. The cover was put back in the trunk and stank it all up. So...what to do? I thought about a wash (didn't love the idea)...thought about charcoal (risky?) and ended up spreading baking soda on the trunk carpet and leaving it open for 2 days to air it out. It worked and after some thorough shop vac action to pick up the baking soda the odor was gone...back to happyville.

Maybe you didn't tip the mecahnic enough and he peed in your trunk. They say 15% of service and 10% of parts is customary....

    (I kid! I kid!)

Is there a way you could air out your trunk, Let the smells vent out and leave your trunk open in the driveway, But this is just a thought

did you also wash the car cover? i wouldn't put it in the dryer; let it air dry so it doesn't shrink.

You SURE it was from the cover, and not the boot? The reason i ask is that foul smell is usually associated with water ingress into the boot area, it's well known on the 360's and i've had a few stinky 430's in as well. Maybe they power-washed the car and it got wet/damp inside. I'd give it a blast with a hosepipe around the trunk area (shut, obviously!) and check for any water creeping in.

i have an odor problem in the bb, and have asked for help in the boxer section. one guy suggested an ozone generator. i looked it up and have ordered one. it looks like it would solve any odor problem - including this one if it returns.

I have to be honest...I thought about the two legged possibility. What I didn't tell you guys is that the first visit was to get the fuel pump replaced (and have a few campaigns done). After picking up the car and driving home the message center lights went off like a cheap x-mas tree. Brought the car back immediately and wasn't happy when I got there (as I was already late getting home). The tech was somewhat embarrassed (read: pissed (why I don't know..what the F did I do?)) so my immediate thought was that he did it. Bottom line was that it became pretty obvious the "violation" was at the rear corner of the cover so I now assume it was a four legged intruder. Either way...I did leave the boot open for two days and applied copious amounts of baking soda..seemed to do the trick.

    Fix it properly.
The solution is simple....goto your local grocery store and rent a carpet cleaning machine (for your house carpets). I have cleaned many an interior with a carpet cleaning machine (more for salt stains) and it works beautifully. Problem solved.
