I am finally ready to look at buying a 355 gts this spring but it burns my ass on the 30 to 50k price difference between Canada and the States. Since Canada Customs has made all 355's ineligible due to bumper impact regulations, I am left pondering on whether to wait 2 years and purchase a US 1995 since you can import any car over 15 years at a fraction of the current prices or bite the bullet and pay the piper!
    What are your thoughts F-Boys?

Get your feet wet with a 348. In two years pick up a 355. The difference in cost (US/CND) is like getting the interim 348 for free! :D

I second that opinion. Life's too short to wait 2 years.

What's the deal with the bumpers? Are they different from the 348 as far as strength and or impact resistance? Since the 355 is airbag equipped as well it seems strange that it wouldn't pass.

Funny thats exactly what I did and what Im going to do in two years.

Sorry Rocket I went threw all of this before in fact I was so 355 crazy that I almost bought one without checking the RIV list thank god I have a family friend that works at the border patrol and he informed me. Pheeeew that was a close one, but things happen for a reason and I feel very good and fortunate about getting a 348 spider especially mine, and who knows I might never switch to a 355. (Thought I would throw that in for the brotherhood....lol)

Someone on the Canadian thread told me I could import a 355 with a E29b form. I dont know if this is bogus I never bothered to find out since I already purchased my spider I never heard of such a form but then again I'm lucky to remember my own name.....lol

From what I understand the E29B is for temporary importing of a motor vehicle (among other things). Usually the CBSA take a substantial bond and only returns it when the vehicle again leaves the country. I don't think it is for the purposes of doing a permanent importation. It is more for the situation when ie: A U.S. citizen is going to be working in Canada for 6 months and wants to bring his own car with him but will be returning to the U.S. with it when done.
    Just my $0.02.

Until a year ago you could import a 355 but you had to do the bumper and running light conversion.
The bumpers in Canada are stronger and rated at 5 mph impact vs the US bumpers which are 2 mph rated.
The cost of the conversion was aproximately $16,000. due to the cost of the bumpers from Ferrari and labour.
For some reason the Cdn government simply banned the importation of all 355's.......not sure why (especially if one was willing to pay the conversion costs).

Lately the Cdn government has hinted that they might relax the bumper standards because they are not really that relevant in the real world.......but this has yet to happen.
