I don't understand destroying an original 208 block by boring it out to be a 3 liter. It would make more sense to find a donor 308 engine, and keep the original 208 set aside. At least that is my opinion. And yet the car is now bid to $60,000. Your opinions?

    It’s sleeved . Nothings destroyed.
Just replace the liners .New pistons and think crank + rods .Then swap the Webber 34 s to 40 s .Then new headers , poss new exhaust.
    For what ?
Molesting theses is now with rarity becoming a dumb thing to do .
Then needs the dash colour changing and front fogs fitting ( switch + looms already there ) .
They only made 840 208 GT4 all for the home market .

There was such interesting potential in a 2 liter V8. Alfa Romeo raced on in the Tippo 33 and had a road version in the Stradale. Chiti and his team developed the two-liter all-aluminum V8 engine that produced 270 bhp and installed it in Alfa’s new Tipo 33. The over-square 1,995cc (2.0 liter) engine used dry-sump lubrication and had a bore and stroke of 78 mm × 52.2 mm (3.07 in × 2.06 in). SPICA fuel injection with four ignition coils and two spark plugs for each cylinder completed the package. The engine used four chain-driven camshafts to operate the valve train with a rev limit of 10,000 rpm and a compression ratio of 10.5:1. The rated horsepower was 227 bhp at 8,800 rpm in road trim and 270 bhp in race trim. I just have to wonder what Ferrari might have done if they had played with their own 2 liter V8 a little more.

That is the best looking GT4 I've seen in a long time as far as exterior. Next to mine anyways.

I’m glad you brought the conversation here. I respect your viewpoint but wasn’t sure having this discussion in the comment stream of the auction was, umm, polite. Thank you for moving it here.

I think that, for me, I agree with you but we are in the minority. The petrolicous video showed the 208 gt4 and it sounded so sweet. Very rare as you point out. But as they say on PAWN STARS rare doesn’t always mean valuable.

It seems that the owner did it very well and respected OEM mostly. Go on autoscout24 and you’ll see several for sale in Europe. And their prices are lower in general than the 308gt4 prices.

Interesting auction. Market for well sorted gt4’s is heating up, perhaps after a lag.

Its funny because others did not like the restored Blue one and I thought it was done perfectly and was an amazing example. And the price reflected it.

I'm glad the seller did so well. There were other little things that made the 208 different from the 308...but the engine of the 208 just gets to me. Sometimes a car doesn't have to be the fastest...or even faster. Like the Giulietta Veloces and Normales...you keep them the way they were built and enjoy them in that configuration.

Is it just me, or does it feel like Rosso Corsa (aka Resale Red) is falling out of fashion, and the original colors for GT4s are starting to bring more money?

They also have a lower final drive , so the gearing is lower .
That’s partly up to 60 mph they feel nippy on the hairpins / bends .
Various Hp out puts 160-170:Hp .

    Yep.

The last thing I wanted was a red Ferrari, but it was next to IMPOSSIBLE to find one that wasn't red. When I was searching for my 308 GT4, I had a total of six solid leads. All of them were red except for one, it was yellow, but then he decided not to sell anyway.

I bought a red one, back in October. I'm picking it up Thursday after a six and half month paint job back to its original color of verde pino.

Rosso Corsa is my absolute least favorite color on a Ferrari.

While I agree this is a nice looking car. What in particular made this 130k car? (No not the obvious bidders answer). But what made this extra desirable?

My guess is its rare color combo, overall condition, and the fact it's a Euro model (much more attractive than US models). Read the comments, people were raving over its color, condition, and the interior (which I actually didn't particularly like). A well sorted, good condition GT4 is simply a $100k car now, at a minimum. All the GT4s that have sold for over $100k have been in excellent condition. The ones in good condition have been hitting in the mid $70s to mid $80s. The ones that need work have been fetching $40s to $60s.
