Hey Everyone! Based on last Sunday's rally/lunch turnout (in the cold rain, no less), there appears to be enough die-hard F-Chat drivers north of Boston interested in having a bi-weekly Sunday morning gathering. I'd like to see if starting on Sunday, 15 May would work for most of you. 9:30 AM is the proposed time. The Starbucks/Bertucci's on Rt. 1A in Beverly is a great place to meet with ample parking and enough caffeine from Starbucks to raise everyone's octane levels to enjoy a good ride and great company! Any feedback/suggestions for different routes/restaurants are more than welcome! There are a lot of great routes that include Topsfield, Essex, Ipswich, Newburyport, Gloucester, Rockport, Beverly Farms ... just to name a few. Here is a sample of tentative dates through August: Sunday, 15 May Sunday, 05 June Sunday, 19 June Sunday, 10 July Sunday, 24 July Sunday, 07 August Sunday, 21 August [A few of the Sunday's not listed above are either holiday weekends or other events (like Tutto Italiano) where it makes little sense to schedule a drive] Any input would be appreciated! Also, this is NOT limited to North Shore residents.... ALL F-Chat members and their friends are more than welcome to join in on the fun!
Good job Brandon, I'll be up for at least some of these dates. My story will be that the lunch part will be difficult as Sunday lunch is a family thing we do most weeks, but 9:30 - 11:30 is a great window for a drive and a chat about cars! Dan
Thanks Dan! I realized after posting the original message that Sunday, 19 June is Father's Day - another holiday that most will be celebrating.... Sorry for my oversight on that date.... How does everyone feel about the dates otherwise?
Is it only for Ferraris? Will a BMW or MINI be welcome? I think this is a great idea. I'm usually out on 1A or Rte 122 on the weekends anyway just zipping along. There are some surprising switchbacks and twisties on the North Shore. The growth of the area, especially in terms of kids and families, is a little disconcerting to me though. Still, some empty stretches can be a lot of fun. - D. Drew Ingram
You are more than welcome, no matter what the car. I agree that the North Shore is a great place for driving.... The roads have good twisties and nice scenery overall. Not a great place for speeding however, as some of the towns are pretty pumped up with cops - Essex being one of those! The get-togethers are not meant to be about speeding, but just relaxing with good roads, and meeting great people to talk about our passion - Ferrari! Hope to see you there on the 15th!
On Sunday, June 19th, why not take a drive down to Hartford for the FCA/NER Concorso Ferrari? You'll see everything from an Enzo to an F50 to F40 to 288 GTO, and historic and racing cars too. Sign up to show yours, take part in a police escorted parade and help raise money for a Children's Hospital. What better way to spend a nice June Sunday with dad? www.fca-newengland.org http://asp1.walkontheweb.com/fca/events_more.asp?id=8847 vty, --Dennis
Brandon, I think this is a great idea, and I see no reason why we can't organize some drives to things like the event that Dennis mentioned, just to keep things exciting. I for one would love to check that out. I would like to add, for those who showed up last weekend, that the plan was to actually get out and do a drive, but the weather was so lousy, nobody was that interested in driving. In the future, a drive is what we had in mind more than just standing around in the rain! (Not that we didn't have fun, but many people who showed up left early because we weren't doing anything involving driving!) I'll make as many as I can. Birdman
Birdman, I agree - last weekend was quite an exception to what we all had in mind. In fact, I am actually surprised so many did show considering the rainy weather. I'm hoping that the 15th will be better weather and that we can get more driving in as well as the good comraderie. Looking forward to seeing you all on the 15th at Starbucks on Rt. 1A in Beverly. We can get a good route for driving as well as a good place to eat. Any suggested routes or restaurants are welcome! Brandon
I hope everyone will consider attending this event as it is for a great charity and I can only imagine must be great to be around so many cool cars and their owners too. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend this year due to other obligations. Dennis, are you the contact for those interested in getting more info?
I'm certainly happy to provide more info, but the official contact is listed on our website (linked above) - Dave Friar, [email protected] or (860) 678-1291. vty, --Dennis
I've got a sister who lives in Peabody. Shes got 3 boys, 10,8,5. They are all Ferrari Fanatics like their uncle. They were up in Toronto a few weeks back and I brought them to Ferrari of Ontario. they were in awe!!to see such great machines up close. I've been to the starbucks you are talking about. I'd love to get more info on the event, If it will take place on the 15 or not, so I can let my sister know and they can take the boys out for a Sunday drive and they can actually see and hear these amazing machines in action.keep us updated please. hopefully next time I'm in Boston, mabey we can meet up and share some stories
9 or 10 i think? i was surprised so many were brave enough to bring out their cars in that weather. i beleive i will be able to make this one as well, but, once again, I will probably have to leave by 11 or 1130. lets pray for good weather!
Hey there guys.... A thanks to Dennis for the links and contact information regarding the Hartford FCA/NER Concorso event on 19 June. Again, it's a GREAT charity and I only wish I could go there myself... I hope you all will consider making plans to attend! As for the 15th, I am hoping (OK, OK, I am praying!) for good weather as well. This morning's Weather Channel forcast says thunderstorms for Sunday.... (I'm NOT a very happy camper hearing this!) But as we all know, the weather forecasts are almost never right and we can only hope that they are again - wrong! Assuming that it is bad weather, the next date is Sunday, 05 June. (The weekends of 22 and 29 May are booked for most of us due to Tutto Italiano and Memorial Day events) I'm wondering if you guys may find it helpful to develop a telephone list of interested attendees? It might prove helpful in the event of weather concerns. I'm happy to gather information from everyone and either email or pass out in person a list for all interested. If so, please PM me with your F-chat name, real name, and telephone number. Brandon
Hey there everyone.... Tomorrow's weather forecast is for rain/thunderstorms in the AM followed by steady rain the remainder of the day. Not looking too good for our North Shore drive.... I'm going to keep tabs on the weather and see how it is by 8 AM on Sunday. If it is raining and looking bad, I think we should consider the next available Sunday (05 June) as our time for a drive and lunch. I know some of you who came the first get-together were pretty bummed as we did more chatting and standing in the rain than actually driving. I well understand! Let's hope for a miracle in a change of weather for tomorrow and if not, let's all count on Sunday, 05 June. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed for decent weather on 22 May - TUTTO ITALIANO! It'll be my first time there and looking forward to the event. PM me if you want to talk about NorthShore driving routes and/or anything else. Take care guys!
they also were saying rain and thunderstorms today and it turned out to be great weather, so im still hopeful for tomorrow. im definately going to be there, rain or shine, so I hope you guys will be too. brandon, are you doing the phone list? ill send you mine because if we have to cancel for whatever reason, i live an hour away and dont wanna show up unknowing.
Thanks Spenser, I sent you a PM with my cell # as well. To date, no one else has given me their number via PM, so I have a very limited number of telephone contacts to call regarding a weather/other event. It's almost midnight here in Salem and not a drop of rain has hit us yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed for Sunday!
Hey everyone, This sunday, June 5, is the next scheduled drive. Who is making it? I'm planning to be there, probably in the Mondial with my daughter. Meeting at Starbucks again? Birdman
My gal and i are thinking of being in Boston for the weekend. Maybe not the drive as want to sight see, but would be great to meetup. Details on exact time/location please.
Hey Steven... We are meeting this Sunday, 05 June at 9:30 AM at the Starbucks in Beverly (Rt. 1A near Rt. 128)... If you can't make the drive, then Starbucks is a good place to meet up with the guys who will want to fuel up on coffee and ************ before the drive. We'll end up doing lunch again in Essex - either Woodmans again or at Periwinkles. Depends on where everyone wants to eat and the timing as well. Hope to see you there! Additional dates: 10 July 24 July 07 August 21 August
im gonna try and make it. im not sure though, as it is the day after my brother's graduation party and over 100 people are going to be there and were having it catered. all of our family members are leaving sunday, so i have to go over the timing but ill try and make it.
Hi, Lately I've been driving from West Newbury to Topsfield on the west side of I-95 (away from the shore). I have found the roads to be twistier and the area less densely populated than Essex, Hamilton, Rowley, etc. I haven't joined you guys yet (my wedding is this weekend and every preceding weekend has been wedding-related) but when I get back I would like to hook up with you guys in my 325is.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make the ride this weekend. Something came up....well, not so much came up - more like my wife reminded me about, that I have to do. I may try to just meet you guys at Starbucks and chat for al ittle while and head home when you all head out. Hopefully I can make the next one.
