After a long winter downunder to was a lovely day. I decided to take the girls out (Testa and QV5000). ***You can check out the problem with the TR on the TR forum***** The QV5000 FI 88 1/2 starts perfectly each time. However lately it has the following symptoms. After driving for about 20 minutes it begins backfiring. Then after you stop the engine, it will not start. Leave it for a day or so and it fires up first time. Blows alot of smoke for about 30 seconds then runs perfectly again for about 20 minutes. Then the cycle begins again. I have put new fuel in it. Octane booster and Fuel Ingector cleaner. Any ideas?
What colour smoke do you get, if it's black then its two rich, could be that the cold start injector is not turning off when it should so it floods the motor, which will cause it so backfire as the extra fuel is ignited by the hot engine. When you turn it off it will refuse to start, try pushing the peddle all the way to the floor as you wind it over it will give it much more air and it might start. After a day or so the fuel will disperse and it goes though it all again, had this problem on a old BMW and the cold start injector timer circuit had died. Regards Graeme
I may start it and then disconnect the cold start injector lead and see if it make a difference. Now I need to get my manuals out and work out where the cold start injector timer module is in these things.
My Testa seems to be running fine. It seems to run on one bank for a few minutes and then all comes good. Only 2nd time it has happened in the last 12 months. So unless it is happening at the time of diagnosis...it becomes difficult to diagnose. The Countach is waiting to get the rear end fixed properly. So I haven't driven it since my last experience. Currently the rear trunk lid is off and getting re-manufactured. Hence have not been able to take it for a drive. Actually just picked up the new skin last week. It is going in on the 12th November to have some poor repairs on the rear end fixed. I have purchased all new panels for the trunk floor and rear panel between the lights. Whilst i am at it i am going to convert the rear end to a eurospec. My car came from Texas. Apparently it was hit in the rear. When i purchased it, the repairs were not really noticable. They became apparent when i removed the rear US "bumper" during the restoration. I have spent about 2 years doing a full restoration including euro front. Full mechanicals, suspension, Electricals, Interior...Finally the rear end is getting done. If anyone has any history on the car, i would be interested. It certainly was not a garage queen. But with alot of time and patience, it is come up to be a great car. I have certainly seen alot worse and not seen many in better condition than this one (is now). Pictures attached do not show the bonnet, trunk and door properly latched. I have also recently obtained a new steering wheel with centre crash pad. If anyone would like a new steering wheel with crash pads, they are still available here in Australia, via third party sellers. As you can see from the pics, i am extremely fussy with my cars. I don't make any compromises with repairs or maintenance. I still have my first car from 30 years ago, still in concourse condition. Unless the car is 30 years old, it is impossible. I have a trade plate through my business which allows me to drive it for the purposes of testing, evaluation and repair. Basically one cannot justify they are testing, evaluating or repairing a car if they are caught driving after hours, or caught at a bar or nightclub with the car. Suits me because i purchased it to be part of my collection and quite frankly Countachs are not daily drivers.
Hi deangpsx8, I remember that car in its damaged state, looked like someone backed it into a post, didn,t save the damaged ones but i have found some photos of it semi repaired, that i had salted away in about 2005 can post if you are interested. Best Regards Graeme
