Working on swapping the weak bottom plate under the tranny with Hill Engineering replacements. Then I saw some sort of RTV solution between the plate and the bottom part of the tranny.

Anybody have done this before? How did you separate? And what is the agent in between?

    Thanks!

That is the motor oil drain plate not the transmission drain.

Yes it is the motor oil drain plate but it’s under the tranny bulk.

Got it. I’m worried applying too much force to pry it out though. Might chafe the metal.

I wonder how to properly pry this off.

I don’t care about the plate but don’t want to be too barbaric with the approach and damage the bottom aluminum that it attaches too. Lol

Initially was thinking of hammering it on the side to slide it off then I though about how our cars are made of aluminum.

If you know how to use a good putty knife it will pop right off. Clean good and use a good sealant. Actually I used Honda bond on that last time on that and its perfect. It doesn't have a gasket so it needs to be super clean.

Did you have to apply the same solution around the screws? Saw mine have the same white agent. Bought a new plate and screws.

Firgured out the liquid solution around the screw. It’s the same liquid gasket around the plate.

Like previously suggested, make sure all of the surfaces are squeaky clean and use Hondabond to put it back together. It will never leak. I wouldn’t use Hondabond if you need to remove it frequently, but there is no better semi-permanent sealer available.

The loctite I recommended is closer to spec - does harden unless under pressure ..so if a little gets in oil no bog deal

Just the fruits of my research .. honda bond is a great sealant ..but i try to copy what was used originally or as close as possible

What is the torque spec for the screws for the plate?

Drain plug I know should 25nm and not the obnoxious 75nm that the workshop states.

Didn’t find the torque specs for it in the 1000+ page workshop manual.

So I did it by feel and it “feels” like 9-10nm would be perfect.
