    I got myself a 2001 Black Boxster S. :)

It is a ton of fun to drive in every aspect. It's my first 6-speed so it took me a few hours to figure it out but I'm getting better everyday.

I'm thinking it will be my last sports car until I buy a 360 CS, but that won't be for at least 10 years or so.

    :)

Sorry for the bad picture :/

Congrats! I too had a 01 S and it was a great, fun car. With the mid-engine layout, it was a blast to drive in the twisties. A great sports car with tremendous handling. My favorite part about the car is it was just fast enough. Not really fast enough to get you in a really bad situation, but fast enough to get you arrested! Thing had sweet breaks too!

Still one of the best driving cars out there, and a smart buy in today's market.

    Congrats!

Good choices with the black/black and the 6-speed. Once you're used to the 6-speed to the point that you don't even think about it while you're driving... driving any other automatic car feels so boring!

Enjoy and drive safe. No street racing. :)

:/ The cost of quality materials would be $200-300 plus at least 4 hours of my time due to the fact that I'd have no idea what I'd be doing. On top of that, I don't have a proper working space. I'll pick it up in the summer and do my own work when I have nothing else consuming my thoughts and a garage to work in at home.

Thanks! I'm still have small issues with going from a dead stop to first gear in a timely smooth fashion, timely being the key word. I can get off the line smoothly but it's anything but the start to a 5.7 sec 0-60.

    Any tips?

From a dead stop, just sloooooowly ease the clutch out. If you do it slow enough, you should be able to get the car to start rolling at about 5mph without even touching the accelerator at all. Let it out too quick though, and it will stall.

Wow have things changed since I was a student. Buy a bottle of Zymol and a couple soft towels and put a couple coats on. The car looks plenty clean in the picture. Enjoy tthe car.

Yes you should really learn to detail.
$50 an hour is big bucks to a student. It is to most everyone.
Buy a video and view it a few times.
Detail the car when you have time. Do it in sections. Hour here, half hour there.
The materials really are not that expensive and since the engine is hidden a good portion of the work is not needed. I never liked washing engines in the first place.

As far as driving; avoid hills until you are comfortable on the flats.
Then practice on gradual slopes. Its a timing thing that comes with practice.
You will eventually have to tackle dead stops on hills. No fun even for the experienced.
I used the hand brake method; Use one hand to hold the vehicle while you engage the clutch.
Boxster S is a great choice BTW.

I can do that every time, but what I can't do yet is a fast start. I'd like to get into gear very quickly rather than having to release the clutch slowly. I think it's just the timing that I need to practice.

Yeah, I'm very happy I live in Florida but I still have to deal with inclines every so often. I think the trick to hill starts and taking off the line quickly would go hand in hand. It seems as though both require lifting off the clutch fast, which is a skill I don't yet have.

I have had my 1998 Boxster for 6.5 years - traded it in on a beautiful NSX, but ended up buying the Boxster back 2 months later - kept the NSX too of course! It's just a super fun car! Oh, out of the 35 or so cars I've owned, still to this day 15% of the time I cannot launch the Boxster from a dead stop smoothly. Its clutch was known to be on/off so it can be tricky from a dead stop.

    congratulations on a great car!

Yes, it's just practice until you're used to the timing.

Remember though, it's a Porsche... not a drag racer. European cars are designed for handling in the corners and gears to be in the power curve coming out of the corner. Not to race from red light to red light.

    Tyler,

Get your ass out there and clean your own car... My how things have changed since I was a new young driver...I didn't know anyone with a car that would be of equivalent value, of course I grew up low middle class too...

How skewed a perception on life a high school student must have when their first car is a Boxster S and the plan is to have a 360 CS by 26... Beyond my ability to fathom actually.

Good luck Tyler...just giving you **** cuz I didn't get no cool car like that when I was a kid! Clearly I was abused by my parents! ;) Have fun and be safe. Hope it does not get vandalized at school...that would be my biggest fear!

    One more tip;
    Dont lock it.
Keep every valuable and what even remotely looks valuable in the trunk.
In a convertible, if they want it, they will get it via a knife.
Save yourself the expense of a top.

I paid for 90% of the car with my own money, money from scholarships and money saved from other things such as birthdays and graduation.

Did I spend every dollar I have on this car? No. Would some criticize me for spending this much on a car rather than investing or saving it? Yes.
But, cars are what I like, I have no interest in anything like I have passion for cars, so why not enjoy getting in and out of a car 6in from the ground without anything hurting or poping.

Next, this is not my first car. I drove a Camry for almost 3 years until about a week or two ago. Also, I'm not in high school, I'm in college studying mechanical engineering.

As for my goal of having a 360CS by age 28, why not shoot for the stars? Is it possible? Yes. Will it be easy? No. Will it even happen? I'll give it my best shot.

I've set goals for myself long term and short term for as long as I can remember. It's the best way to get where you want to go.

Remember, you can make anything happen so long as failure is not an option.

I really hadn't thought about that, thanks for the tip! I don't keep anything in the cockpit area at all because I leave the top down when I park for lunch or something else and the car is often out of sight.

Now that I think about it though, I think the car locks itself, but I'll have to test that out.
