I have 6 CMCs: W154, W25, W196R, AU Type C, Type D, and the McLaren SLR, with this Maserati 250F on the way (I held off being first to save a few dollars). I have about 40 Exotos, 20+ Kyoshos, 30+ AutoArts, and about 50 assorted Mattel, Burago and Maistos. CMC is, IMHO, the top diecast manufacturer right now.

Exoto's newer releases are a match for CMC, but their prices are starting to get silly. For value and parts count CMC is amazing. You would pay ten times what they cost to get a craftsman to build you one to the same level of detail and quality. Every new model pushes the boundaries of what they can do. The copper hood on the SLR is pretty close to scale thickness, and the way it opens is a demonstration of scale precision and engineering. I'm really looking forward to the 250F and only wish it could be dis-assembled more to show the frame and interior detail.

The only drawback is that CMC releases only a few models a year, and they tend to focus on classic (read older than 50yrs) cars with the exception of the McLaren SLR. Also they're more Euro focused. Exoto, on the other hand, has a great selection of newer cars, with a strong representation of American cars. So, they're catering to different collectors at the moment. This may change though, as CMC has announced a licensing agreement with Ferrari meaning they will release at least one new Ferrari and Maserati car each year. Many people are anxiously awaiting the Ferrari 250SWB, which is expected to be released beginning of 2006.

I have this model sitting of top of my computer. I'm not a model collector but had to buy it at the Monterey Historics. Also picked up the Auto Union Type C which is equally beautiful. No regrets.

I've read on another forum that CMC will release a new Ferrari model each year (starting with the SWB). I hope they'll get the Borranis right. Somehow wire wheels are a problem for scalemodel manufacturers.

    ciao, Peter

Hello to all of you new and current CMC fans. I've collected 1/18th die cast models from just about every company and, IMHO, none compare to the quality and detail of CMC. The new 250F Maserati is a shining example of a product from a company whose models, all ready outstanding!, just keep getting better, with every new release. For lack of space, I've pretty much stopped collecting 1/18th scale model but, the one exception is CMC. To those of you who have never experienced their products, and appreciate the finest quality, you owe it to yourself to take a look. I guaranty, you won't be disappointed!

CMC is a really good model company. Over the years they have made alot of models that were not too popular here...they had their following...but nothing really mainstream.

Now they are making some really cool stuff and the quality that I see is outstanding!
