Bought a Maserati Spyder Cambio (02) a few days ago. Love the car so far minus the reliability problems. I've driven it about 2,000 miles and so far the dash isn't lighting uip anymore and the splash guard mesh part under the engine fell off. I feel this is just the beginning but it's a very fun car.

Awesome Kevin! What color combo and can you post some pictures.
Did you choose a Maserati instead of the 355 you wanted?
I'm sure that Maserati is a thrill to drive. Enjoy!

It's girgo exterior and the interior is tan and natural. I picked the Maserati instead of the F355 because I had to drive the car back from Florida and I doubted making it from Florida-Oklahoma in an F355. I will be taking some pictures after I fix the splash guard that's hanging out the bottom and clean the front bumper and grill (2k miles=Hella bugs). Here's a picture of the car at Ferrari of Central Florida though until I take some later on.

That's awesome! This might be a stupid question but, do those only come in with a F1 tranny or can you get a manual 6-speed? Which is yours?

I know someone who drove his F355 1700 miles home. He said it was a great experience.

They come in both 6spd and the F1 Tranny (called the cambiocorsa for some reason). Mine is the Cambiocorsa. It's the first SMG car I've owned and honestly I'm starting to like it more then the 6spd.

I'm sure an F355 could have made it but it was more of a gamble then the Maserati.

I'll be coming to TX for some of the upcoming Ferrari/Maser meets throughout the Fall Season. If you happen to go, I'd be more then happy to give you a ride.

I had a 2002 CambioCorsa and found the shifting to be unpleasantly jerky. Maserati of San Francisco suggested a "computer update", but after driving another 2002 with that update, I decided against it: the update made the shifting sloppy and slushy (and a real heart-stopper when trying to maneuver on steep SF hills!).

My problem was solved when I had a Tubi exhaust put on the car. I got the exhaust for its noise (which makes the Maser sound wonderful!), but an unexpected and delightful side-benefit was that the twitchy cambio suddenly smoothed out to jet-plane bliss. This also surprised Maserati SF, and they called Maserati North America about it. MNA reported many of the same feedbacks, and that it apparently had something to do with the Tubi's lower back pressure.

Anyway, when you have an extra $3K to throw at the car, I would definitely recommend the Tubi. :)

Until you do, one trick to make driving with the CC less neck-wrenching: When you know that you're going to be coming to a full stop, double-click it into neutral and coast to the stop. That way you'll bypass all that annoying downshifting by the unit.

I live for that wonderful "annoyance" aria on my Maser GranSport! I certainly wouldn't switch into N ...

The 2005 Gransport is a whole different world than the 2002 "regular" models. First, Maserati did a lot of tuning of the CambioCorsa transmission for 2003, to smooth out the initial jerkiness. The improvement was substantial, but using the same "computer reprogramming" on the 2002s was not so good, at least not in my experience.

The Gransport is a Rambo Maserati, and everything about its transmission is superb. Ditto the exhaust, which is already so good that a Tubi is unnecessary (and probably a step down). Just switch the Gransport into "Sport" mode and it's like David Banner turning green and busting out of his shirt. :)

Not a fan of Tubi's. I own NAPerformance and we plan on doing quite a bit of modifications to the car. I will be throwing the NAPerformance exhaust/intake/manifolds/ecu on it this winter and have dyno testing and let you guys know the overall review of the modifications. I greatly appreciate your input though! And everyone elses.

Actually I'm told the stock GranSport exhaust *is* actually sourced from Tubi.

I've heard the same. Well, regardless, the GS's exhaust sounds damn good stock. Loud enough to make a noticeable presence, but not annoying.

The Gransport is a flat-out magnificent car. I harangue anyone considering buying one of the new Masers to get one of these. Now that they've really got it right, I think that Maserati should build all of its Coupés and Spyders as GSs. :)

    Huge congrats on the car.

I had one and i must say i really loved it, in spite of its flaws and bugs.

You'll love it, and the engine is amazingly rev-hungry, as well as torquey.

GAAAH I thought this was an alignment problem but I assume so. Also on the right side of my car near the rear tire there is an extremely excessive amount of heat coming out, I mean so hot you can't stand there. I haven't really looked into the problem further but nothing comes to mind? Just my car or common problem? And in spite of what everyone says, in my opinion this car is much more reliable then I thought, I've been using it as a daily with no problems whatsoever since my dash light quit working (and it magically started working again).

Not on my 2002 Coupé. The steering was smooth as silk. Anyone with a vibrating steering wheel probably just needs an alignment.

italian electronics work sporadicaly usually depending on weather and loose connections, nothing really serious, you really gotta drive an italian car on a daily basis to understand how reliable they can actually be after some minor bugs are ironed out!

The '02 Spyder cowl would shake like a wet dog when you went over bumps thus the shake in the steering wheel. The lack of a roof compromised the structural ridgidity of the car. But, with the top down and the exhaust singing as you hit the gears . . . who cares.
