Hi everybody! I have just bought my first Ferrari! The car is still at the dealer, waiting for shipment to Norway. So far I have found out that the car is an USA 1977 model, original black, VIN # 23083. The engine has been replaced with a Euro unit with dry sump. Does anybody here have any further information about the car? What is the correct procedure for checking the oil level on 308s with dry sump engines? Regrads Nor_Wgn Image Unavailable, Please Login
Welcome and congrats! Not far from my VIN #22641... A search of the site here will uncover some links to Owners Manuals, on a dry sump, I have no idea...LOL! ...but we have some dry sump owners posting here also......
Wow, that car looks awesome..........CONGRATULATIONS!! I also have a black GTB!! Non Euro though. Yours appears to have a few other mods, like no side marker lights, deep chin spoiler, Euro bumper, or at least Euro location of bumper, and non-stock parking lenses, and of course the rims. It looks fantastic all together, and I love the interior colour with black!! Very sweet!! Ciao, Dennis
Here are some more pictures of the car. The previews owner has done a kind of GTO theme on the car. All the chrome bits are black (door locks, switches inside the car, horse on the console). The rims are GTO replicas, and I believe he has put in seats from a 308 GBTi . Wow, that's a beautiful car. I love the stance and overall look with the bumpers and blackout look. Very nice!
Congrats. Plates show California, are you shipping it to Norway or are you in the US? The seats appear to be QV seats, as is the front bonnet (with the central vent). James in Denver
I am shipping it to Norway, via Amsterdam. Hopefully I will receive the car in four weeks. Regards. Nor_Wgn.
Yes, it seems as the bonnet and seats are from QV. Probably the door sides also. I believe the previous owner has removed the choke handle from the centre console. Is there a problem to run this cars without choke when the engine is cold? Regards Nor_Wgn
Did you buy the car from Blackhorse Motors in Hollywood, CA? I think I went to see this car a couple of months ago.
No, it was in the showroom and would have been a bit of a bear to get out. From what I recall (keep in mind it's been a few months - Paint was very good to excellent. The lines were very crisp incicating some good final bodywork prior to repaint - Interior was fair. It was kind of dirty and looked 'used'. They may have cleaned it up since I saw it - Clutch was very stiff. The manager told me the previous owner installed a racing clutch; I believe it - The drysump was an aftermarket kit installed on the stock motor. It wasn't a factory dry sump motor. I'm sure it's a great car. I don't think it had been there for too long before I saw it, so they may have undertaken more restorative work then when I first saw it.
Hi. Congratulations on the car. beautiful. Now you must be careful with the shipping. I've shipped mine in February by Ro-Ro from Miami to Spain, and I've just received it the past week!!! And somebody has stolen some parts of my car!!!! OK, Hope you have better fortune than me with the forward company... Cheers
Hi Magnum! I read your post regarding shipment, and I have decided for a 20 foot container. Hopefully my car will arrive in one piece. Regards Nor_Wgn
Congratulations, car looks beautiful, many safe driving miles. To check the oil level on a drysump. 1. run the engine till the oil temp. is a little warm. 2. stop the engine. 3. check immediately the oil level. the level must be between the Max and the Min. mark standing. Never check the oil level when the engine is cold or standing overnight because you will read a false level ( to low ) and you like to add more oil. I, check the oil level always when a refilling my fuel tank because the engine oil is nice warm. Rob,
Congrats on the cars guys. I assume you and Antonio bought U.S. based cars because of the strength of the Euro, is that right? I would not think there is some shortage of good cars here is Europe.
After reading that other thread about the guy who had his car shipped to Spain, the sealed container sounds like a really, really good idea. Have them put a car cover on it in the container as well, to keep the dirt to a minimum. Also, probably still a good idea to have them ship all the "loose" stuff to you separately, like the tools, paperwork, manuals, extra keys, etc. They are less likely to disappear if they are not with the car. Congrats and lots of luck. She's a beauty!! Post some pics when she arrives.
I'll have to check the door plate when she comes home from some repairs... I only have #20405 home now as my daily driver, the others (#22127 and #22641) are getting some attention at the shop.....
If only Ferrari had given the car the correct stance from day one. We'd all either be richer or priced out of the market. Nice While never one to knock my hero 'the bandit' just look how cool the 308 looks compared to the trans am next to it.
Hi eulk328. Yes, you're right. I bought my 308 because the price in dollars is good for the euro. Here in Europe the 308 have started to rise in price and they're in worst shape in many cases. I think that the maintenance done to the American cars is better. Also I like the American QV version. And good decision nor_wgn! Best by container than RoRo. More expensive but safer!
* I'm surprised that someone isn't shipping boatloads of 308's to Europe, with the strength of the Euro and the prices here in the US. Seems like an opportunity to make some easy cash.
