So today I was on a training course at ford for the new 6.4 diesel engine. I know the teacher well and he knows about my ferrari hobby, blah blah blah. I told him about the boxer which lead him to a story I thought I would mention here and see what feedback I get. He is a mechanic as well and spent his career working on european cars, many exotics and now he teaches for ford. He starts by saying a boxer he worked on was involved in an accident where the car went down a bank on a wet road, the driver was unhurt and as he proceeded to have a smoke someone took a picture of the car (later printed in road and track) which we are all familiar with in black and white making reference to the tires being good but not great. So, he told me the accident happened in St catherines ontario canada, even gave location and name details and it was the early eighties when it occured to a carbed boxer. He told me the story of the car being imported illegally from italy when new, stored for a few years and put on the road without being registered at which time the accident happened. The RCMP saw the pic and wanted to know the where abouts of that boxer since they somehow knew it was here and it shouldnt be. The car was fixed and sold then siezed by the RCMP. Dont know where it went from there and cant see why this guy would pull this story out of his a$$, so without knowing anything prior about this picture and the story behind it I guess I believe him. The fact he gave the owners name, where and when it happened and just spewed it out without skipping a beat ameks it very believeable. I can get more details tomorrow when I see him again as well as the shop where the car was fixed, etc..

    Anyone else have info?

Newman you have all the answers so far. Would enjoy hearing more if you can share... I thought that accident happened in Europe. The RCMP were involved in a few Ferrari situations. In one case the Ferrari was confiscated and merely put up for auction. That car is still in Ontario.

One of the very early Ontario 365 GT/4 BB was in an accident with a dumptruck. The Ferrari was fixed and then resold. The new owner felt it was not fixed properly and it never did track straight. He gave the BB back to the dealer and got ALL his money back. Just under $40K back then. The dealer squealed like a stuck pig on that one!

I believe the source on this story, I never would have guessed it happened over here. The shop that had and sold the car was called Performance Car in St catherines ontario. I cant remember the name of the park where this accident took place but there is some park in St Catherines named after a wealthy family there owns property. The driver was the owner of the property. If I hear the park name Ill know it or if I look it up on map. Thats all I have at the moment.

Cam Champion ran Performance Cars in St Kitts. He was more of a Porsche guy though. He was sort of known for burning down cars. If it survived in his hands then you knew it was a good one. He also had the MB line and there was a Chrysler dealership at some point to.

The guy used to work on mainly german cars, remembered the boxer, said his eyes watered from the exhaust fumes and that it wasnt stock to his knowledge, was quite loud as well.

That looks like snow so no big surprise then :) I have trouble moving my 308GT4 back and forth out of garage when there is snow! And I think I have good tires. ok they are not even all season but good tread.
