Is there a good way to install a battery disconect on the Boxer? With the battery located deep down in the front deck lid under the spare its a real pain. I remember some of the 308 Quatrovalves had a disconnect under the front lid that was very accessible. Just wondering if anyone had a good solution.

Do you keep your spare in the car? I keep mine in the garage, which gives me both a usable trunk and a fairly easy path to connect my battery tender.

Mine has a switch mounted on the rear wall of the compartment in the little flat area between the left inner fender and the narrow veritcal hump. Its about a 4" wide area and thats where mine is. I find it handy for when the boxer is under the lift so the clamshell is limited to how far I can open it. I open slightly, reach in and flick it off.

I just hard wired a battery tender lead to the battery so I can hook it up without removing the spare...

A PO installed mine up under the dash, on the firewall I believe (I'll look later and correct if I'm wrong). It's in line with, and just ahead of the Ignition Key location about a foot or so, and can't be seen unless you're looking from a very low angle, and know what you're looking for. Easy to pop it in sitting in the seat without having to see it.

Mine sits under a 4 post lift as well. I like the left inner fender idea as well. Do you "switch" the red or black wire?

I mount Boxer disconnects (with the removable red key) on the left side of the tool-roll well under the spare through the fiberglass.
That way you don't see it and you can still stick your hand through the spare's spokes and reach it without removing the spare.
It's also terribly easy to run short battery cables to and from the switch in that location.

Thanks gentlemen. I've got some good ideas now. I want to do this in the simplest, least obtrusive way possible.

Newman, I kinow you and David are buds so take this with a grain of salt. However David advises that only slower injected cars should have the disconnect switch wired through the ground. :)

    Stay warm.

PO put my battery cutoff just behind the utility lamp socket on the bulkhead. Reach down, turn left, lights out. Done.

My disconnect is located on the left headlight assembly frame. Nicely done job. Switches the positive terminal. I thought it was factory but i guess not.

The 365's dont require a battery cut-off because they're usually in pieces undergoing repair.....carbs one week, pumps the next, master cylinders and boosters, on-going suspension, the list goes on.....:)
