    Good day all,

If anyone is interested, TRutlands has a Daytona/Boxer Brake hose kit on sale for $359.95 USD (includes shipping). It is a complete kit ( 8 hoses... enough for both front and rear). Here is the description:

This kit includes four OEM ATE 101392 rear hoses and four OEM ATE 101393 front hoses.
For use on all Daytonas and Boxers.

    Normally: $540.00
    THIS WEEK ONLY: $359.95

    The sale ends on Friday.

I have been wanting to replace mine for some time now, as I suspect that they are original. I was considering some SS braided ones, but could not find a suitable kit and/or a supplier that could guarantee me that the fitment would be correct. I could have also had a set made for less, but for this price I felt it was not worth the aggravation.

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Nice!

I personally think the stainless is kind of 'overkill' for street applications, it does look nice but I rarely crawl under and gaze at stuff.....sometimes admittedly.!!!

    Do you run stainless?

Some insist they can "feel the difference" which I call BS on that....I can feel "good brakes" vs. "no brakes"...LoL!

DANG!!!! Two weeks too late. Gotta resist looking at my invoice now - it'll probably make me nauseous. Needed them anyway, no matter what.

Great tip Sam...Mom allways said "It won't hurt to ask" so I called T-Rutlands, mentioned the special and this tread and received the $359 price for the eight hoses which arrived last week. I also believe mine are original and this is money well spent for the replacements.
Along with rear Koni's (fronts replaced last year) these will make a nice project on my Boxer over the winter.

    Thanks for posting this thread!

    Dave

    Good day Dave,

You are very welcome! I believe that mine are also original... which has worried me since I got my car. It has been on my list of things to do... so, when I saw the deal, I just jumped in.

Interestingly, the deal this week is a complete set of ATE brake caliper rebuild kits for $275. The blurb states:

Our most complete brake caliper rebuild kit ever ! ALL OEM ATE PARTS. For All Daytonas Boxers and TRs through 1991. This kit includes:
    2 x 95691531 Front Caliper Kits
    2 x 95691532 Rear Caliper Kits
    16 x 95699013 seal rings

    List Price $471.00
    SALE PRICE $275.00

I had already purchased my rebuild kits some time ago for roughly the same price, which I think is a pretty good deal. Those ATE kits are very hard to find and from my research appear to be specific to this caliper... which does not appear to be used on any other cars.

Anyway, this Winter I, too, am hoping to do some odds and ends on my BB... brake caliper rebuild, new rotors, and ofcourse new brake lines :) ... Depending upon my work schedule, I may also do a suspension rebuild, etc...

    Cheers,

    Sam

I wouldn't call it overkill, it just that the stainless steel lines will outlast the car. Per the OEM manufacturer ATE, the rubber brake lines have a safe, useful lifespan of about 7-10 years, before internal deterioration can occur. The rubber lines may get hard externally, a visual sign that they're do for replacement. However, the real problem that I find is that they "constrict" internally over time, causing an "unexplainable", sometimes intermittent pull to one side under braking. In that I've had my BB for over 25 years, I've replaced the OE rubber lines twice...and the last and final time, with custom SS lines.

Feel the difference? I doubt it. The stainless steel lines may be slightly more resistant to flex under hydraulic pressure. However, whenever you replace any brake lines, the fluid is flushed and bleed. That action in itself will result in an improved brake pedal feel. So, I agree with you that likely, there's no discernable difference in "pedal feel".

    Regards,
    David

Unless you really need the caliper retainer pins, which can be difficult to source...Martin at Girodisc has the correct ATE caliper kits at $35 each. Great guy, products...without the "F-car" premium. (BB, BBi and TR are all the same)

    Enjoy,
    David
