I'm looking at injected Boxers and have a few questions --- 1) Is the tachometer signal driven off the ECU (DinoPlex) module, or is there some separate sending unit? 2) If the speedometer is the "world" version (displays speed in both MPH and KPH), what units are the diplayed for mileage --- kilometers or miles? 3) Any suggestions as to what to look for / what to look out for on these cars?
Dont know answer to question 1 but its definatly electronic. Most seem to count mileage in kms no matter what speedo face says. Long list of things to look out for. Is paint origional, if not why not. Interiors dont hold up that well so expect some leather shrinkage. When was engine out service, who did it, was it a cheapie or was waterpump tensioner bearings etc done. Does distributor advance properly, have brakes and lines been done in the last few years, same for shocks. steering should be tight and exact, compression? Is the car still bodged for fed compliance or has it been returned to stock. History does it have one. Most impotantly has it been well kept and loved. A pristine low mileage car that has been sitting will take 10-15k to drive properly but is a great foundation. A driven car if well kept has its own virtues. Drive a few, there is a dramatic difference between a poor, well and great running boxer. Lastly how old are the tires.
www.forza.weblobby.com. Ask for Peter Sweeney. Nice guy, honest and a Boxer fan. No kick-back for me. Just positive experiences with him. Good luck. Dane
My suggestion is if you find one with a Pioneer/Ferrari eq. you should pull it out and send it to me for safe keeping.
I don't know what you mean by a "world" version speedometer. I have seen Boxers with KPH speedometers, MPH speedometers, and KPH speedometers with a faceplate change to read MPH. Most Boxers you will find in the US have the changed faceplate, so that the odometer reads in KM and the speedometer reads in MPH.
Dr. T. --- It does in fact the EQ, which holds no particular interest for me. If I buy the car, I'll consider taking out the unit and selling it. What's it worth to you? Make me an offer...
