    Good day All,

I was curious if anyone has any data on what the output emission levels are for Boxers? I am looking for Carbed and Injected Boxer values for HC, CO, etc. I recognize that California tends to be one of the strictest emission areas and so perhaps fellow fchatters from CA can comment one what emission levels they found from their cars?

I have never checked mine, but will do so next season (April ?)... we are and have been in Winter since mid October... argh....

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,

    Sam

Hi Sam, I don't have numbers of the 512bb, but I am certain that upon start up and the warm up stage of 12 minutes - there is enough smog that would make the average non smoker a lifetime smoker if examined ;)

    Hi Sam,
In my file, I have the smog cert with levels from '07. However, the car had cats at the time and that likely improves the readings that it would blow now with the stock system in place. If you are interested in those numbers I will happily post or send them to you. (for a BBi)

When I was tuning my BB with a GA I tried to get around 300ppm HC and 5%CO any less I think it would be too lean, this is with no cats of course.

my BB carb with around 450 HP ( from koenig, munic ) I can adjust for smoke control down to 2,5 % CO and if the spark plugs are brand new a HC from 350 to 420 each side. but then if you go in low rpm it makes no fun. so best adjustment I tested has been around 4 % CO, then it has less then 320 HC ppm and it runs good, only by trottle completly closed on a racing track just before a corner it is missfriring then, but the acceleration after the corner is very fine.

if I adjust in idle more than 5 % CO the HC goes down a little more, but after 15 minutes driving in town sometimes 2 or 3 spark plugs not firing anymore. so stop, take them out, clean them, put in again and dirve with higher rpm. option would be to use ohter spark plugs, but then if you like to go with high rpm you have to change first.

A proper running bbi, with the cams degreed in, I've seen HC levels consistently below 170 ppm with CO less than 1.6%. Carb cars typically are around 300 ppm HC with CO between 3-4%. All reading are pre-cat, if so equipped.

Finally got up to my file.
    2500rpm: HC - 14
    CO% - .20
    Idle (1032rpm): HC - 19
    CO% - .17

These are old numbers before I purchased the car. I don't know who did the test or if there was any "monkey business" to have the car pass in CA.

I do not currently have a smog cert requirement, so I have not done a smog test in the years I have owned it.

    Cheers, Sam!

    william,

those meassurments then could only be from an injected model with cats, never carburated cars.
