If all goes well, that would be me.

Not sure if I'll be able to sleep between now and the fateful day... so I'll just dream wide awake until then.

Thanks my man. That 'wanted' thing had been on my mind as I looked back on goals I'd listed in 2001, 2002, 2003, yawn, 2004 etc.

Thanks to all the many welcomes. I high five all of you.

Reading how much fun you folks have with your Boxers has been an enlightening - albeit now expensive (!) - pastime. I'm so giddy now that people think I've been to an "Up With People" concert. If that joke predates you, forget it.

Tonight I sit here, having built a fire, poured the requisite glass of wine to tell my dear, supportive (Proverbs 31) wife the 'how and when' of this culmination. I won't have to tell her the 'why'. I was driving a 246 Dino when we first dated, 22 years ago.

I'll report more as I go visit the beast in the aluminum skin in about 24 days and 18 hours, but who'd counting? The owner's a nut - in the best of ways - so we have much in common already. Let me just say that when he started the car with the phone held dangerously near the exhaust pipe, my greatest immediate ambition was to become an electron and fiber-optic myself into his garage, right through the phone. I can still summon the chills.

This mind affair has been going on awhile. That Road&Track cover in, I believe 1977, has haunted me like it did for many of you. There'll be 'new' haunts in this ride, for I presume many years to come.

For those of you who reach out to protect posters who occasoinally dive in, face first, in the "No PPI Shallows of Sheer Idiocy", save your typing fingers for the support I'll need later. For now, I've covered all bases this side of taking a shovel to Modena and asking the man myself. "Wearing out my welcome" happened days ago. A mob may appear at my doorstep before I finish this post.

Anyway, I must say thanks again to the most supportive board in automobiledom - okay, you're TIED for first with the deTomaso community, so give 'em a break. I've learned a lot. Got a lot more to learn... and to live.

So thank Heaven and 12 mostly-horizontal cylinders. I'll be in touch. Your continuing welcomes, accolades, and even "misery loves company" comments are welcome!

    adams,

it is really nice to hear of your excitement...we all went through it. those 24 days are going to be tough but we are in fact a good support group and will get you through it.

think of and ask all the questions w/ respect to repairs, maint, preservation, restoration, and concours, prep...the answers are all here!

i cannot help but listen to mark gold's comments and now yours...the boxer...she is getting ready to have her day!!!

    congrats again.

    Hey Adams
Very well done on the Boxer, I would kill for a black one, its the best colour IMO. This car will exceed all your expectations, it really is that good. I see you are also a Pantera owner and mention the De Tomaso community, so which forum do you haunt for the Pantera, PI??

Clearly you've got superior taste in cars! 'How do YOU compare the two cars?

"Yes", PI is where I spend some time. Great group of folks, supremely helpful. And I can't say enough nice things about the director, George Pence.

I've seen you on there, and here. Plus I've watched and HEARD your Boxer run up and down the streets on YouTube!

I agree that black is pretty strong, though I fear my cleaning duties have just been tripled. Oh well. It's cheap therapy. I'd had my sights set on dark blue, but it just wasn't to be. (Now that I think about it, is there a BAD color on these cars?)

Murph, I know what you mean, but my poor wife is so verly car-attuned she actually corrects her friends to put the "eh" at the end of "Porsche". (Even attended the factory with me a few years back.)

We had a great time talking about the Boxer last night. The VIN contains our wedding anniversary, which was a helpful sign. Sometimes things just line up.

    Well Adams
I dont think you can really compare the two cars, like chalk and cheese, both are very different, I would find it difficult to pick a favourite, I sold my first Boxer early last year and regretted it so much I immediately started looking for another and come July had bought my second one. If it came down to it and I could only keep one car it would probably be the Pantera, as I have owned it for five years, invested a lot of money in it, and i am comfortable doing much of the maintenance myself.
The Pantera handles better, especially corners better with little roll, the engine is no Italian 12 but it sure delivers and does sound awesome. The Boxer is a more polished car, and the finish in the engine bay especially is better. The flat 12 is pure magic
Both cars were among my favourites as a kid snd that remains so now.
You are right about George Pence, very helpful and supremely knowledgeable on De Tomaso. What is your username on PI?

Good points, all. I've had a couple 308/328s and think they're super cars, but - like you - the Boxer just 'hits' me in styling, layout, sound, and exotic-ness. I look forward to the journey with it. My highly creative username on PI is the very same as here.

Thanks to all the supportive 'welcomes'. Can't wait to report as time goes on.

How about an even rare-er black with white interior? Congrats on the purchase of a truly awesome car. You will be a bit nervous and intimidated, but the excitement is like nothing else you have ever experienced automotively, even if some other cars are faster. I had a 328 also and the Boxer is way ahead of it in terms of heart-pounding excitement. My 328 provided the "Ferrari" experience in droves, but the Boxer takes it one step further while still maintaining the initial driving experience. Have fun. You'll never regret it.

Here I am in Texas viewing the much-coveted Boxer. Looks great, original paint, arrow straight, started right up, drives well, snick-snick into gear (even 2nd once warm), some vague 'on center' feel (slightly more dead center than I'd have expected), pulled great, sounded better. Couple questions...

    1. Someone in the 80's thought it was a swell idea to cut the entry threshold for speakers (ridding the ashtray in the process). My leather guy can handle that, but where in the world does a person locate a Boxer ashtray?

    2. About an hour after driving, a small puddle of hydraulic fluid appeared nearly center under the car (ahead of engine, behind passenger compartment). Owner has a warranty on recent work so that'll be tended to tomorrow (said he'd pay for it if it wasn't. Good guy.) Any guesses what this might be?

All in all, trying to reel in my interminable Boxer lust because it's fun and beautiful beyond description. Last question, can this car be driven without smiling?
