How many Boxer owners here? I can't believe how underrated and cheap these cars are compared to other classic 12s, what incredible value you get from a handmade Boxer.

I own a 1976 365 BB, serial no. 18745, red with black interior. I agree with your assessment. It is an exciting, fantastic drive and great value for the money.

I have a solid red BB512i with tan Daytona seats with brown inserts and dash s/n:42213. It has been brought back to full euro spec with the ugly rubber bumpers and side marker lights removed. It has a dealer installed Ansa sports exhaust with all tools, records and original Pioneer radio/equalizer that works along with a set of Schedoni luggage. I have had a major service done by FoA and have driven it about 5k miles in the last 17 months. It is in excellant condition and a BLAST to drive. While all Ferraris are "works in progress" I believe it to be a 90+ point car now and I hope to get it to a 95+ car by the time the Ferrari French Quarter Classic in Nov. 2004; although it will always lose some points due to the Ansa sports exhaust and some non-OEM hose clamps on some radiator hoses .

I bought a 1983 512BBi (#46189) in November '03 and have put about 3,000 miles on it. I LOVE it.... it's kinda like a 308 on steroids, but better!

It's all red with a tan interior & optional tan leather headliner. All of the EPA/DOT bumpers, side markers, air pump, headers, cats, etc. have been removed and it's been returned to Euro spec.

It will be appearing on the cover of "Griot's Garage" summer catalog, mailing nationally on June 28th.

Thanks! LOL - I probably would have paid -them- to get it on the cover.

They have been extremely nice to me and when I went down to pick up the car after the photo shoot, there was a Griot's $200 gift certificate laying on the drivers seat for me!

I bought one of those cool little rolling chairs that is pictured on the cover and a bunch of cleaning supplies, etc.. to use on my cars.

Guys, have no intention of hijacking this thread. But I want to ask you if you have any regrets on ownership (expensive to maintain? frequent breakdown?
metric tires, etc) of your boxer. Reading your posts here though doesn't make me think so.

I ask bec. a fellow FCA member here in St. Louis has an '83 BBi that I am considering upgrading to (currently have an '89 328). I really like it (has a red boxer trim ext/tan int., 10k miles, "needs nothing," and looks as pristine
as Gary's and Msdesignltd's) but liking it is not enough (at least to me).

Don't know how to put it but...although I am definitely not "loaded," money or cost is also not a big issue. But just bec. "I can afford" doesn't necessarily mean I will put up with all the headaches. By "headache," I don't mean maintenance, but repair bills, hard to get parts, etc. Something to these effects.

My 328 is not a daily driver but it is absolutely not a garage queen. Is the BBi as "usable?"

    Comments?

    Thank you.

    Ron

    Michael,

If you're interested, here's some photos that I took in their "garage" when my car was being photographed for the catalog:

Basicaly like any older fcar have the hoses, brake lines, belts, shocks etc been done, because if you want to "drive" as opposed to "look nice" somewhere in the last few years these things will have needed to be done, or you'l have to do them, this is the big hidden cost to any boxer or older ferrari after 20 years. In addition every 7 years or so the car needs an engine out service to do belts. In fact the belts usualy look fine but by year 8 all the other seals water pump etc start to go so its engine out time. Figure on $5000-10,000 depending on whatever else might need doing. Metric tires are fine for the street.

The cars seem very reliable and are tough, just plan on spending $ 1000 in a good year a bit more in others as little things need doing and expect some serious bills every 5-7years. Completly different to the v8 cars, tons of tourque, and serious go. The other alternative is prabably a testatrossa which I imagine would be the same to maintain but styling wise totaly lost the plot, and its not exactly rare.

Yes- Griot's is having their printer make me a high quality poster size print of the catalog cover (complete w/logos & text) for my garage wall.

What is the Lotus front they have up on top of the shelf stacks?

    Curious, wondered if you asked?

The Boxer is one model that I am considering as a replacement for my 365 GTC4.

Has anyone seen a Giallo or similar Boxer (other than the one on EBay with a wing)? Photos?

After fretting over the carbs on my C4 for 7 years (I actually used to LIKE carb cars!), I am thinking about going 512BBi. Appreciate your comments on that, esp from 365 and 512 carb owners.

I have a 512BB, once carbs are set up properly they are okay.

I prefer carbs on the flat 12, instant throttle response and incredible sounds vs the FI, sounds similar to a late 60s F1 Ferrari.

Their are only about 75 total 365s and 512s in the US, they were harder to Federalize and pass emission standards.
