really sorry to start another 308 thread, but i am looking to get another 308 and have a few narrowed down. i need to know if a "Boxer" painted 308 should have the body color up top though out the whole door jamb, or are the colors in fact split. ie, upper and lower colors are even split in the door jambs, say silver over black or red over black. i have 2 different cars in mind and the details are what matter. seems to me the upper body color should be in the door jambs, and there should be no black paint (or overspray) inside the jambs. my 308 gt4 had the boxer paint scheme, but i think the car did not leave the factory that way as i think it was orange originally. the pics i have of it tell me nothing. thanks for putting up with my questions Michael
That's what I've seen from the majority of GT4's I've seen. No matt-black in the door jambs. When it comes to the back of the car, I've seen some where the black wraps-around and covers the flat area just below the tail lights and the edge below the licence plate. Other cars, I've seen it cut off at the edge of the rear quarters and not wrap-around under the tail lights. It should also have a pin-stripe, along the body crease. Hi Michael The 308GT4 specific information is on my http://dino308gt4.com web site. Look at page 29 of the Technical Revisions pdf. I'm not sure it helps with the GTS and GTB boxer paint style though since the GT4's donot have the groove in the sides. Gerrit Peter's car is painted using that Technical Revision (we posted at the same time..??)
Yes, we did Gerrit. As you can see, I added your Tech Bulletin with that post too. I think they would have painted the GTB/S' in the same manner as the GT4's. JMHO...
Let me emphasize that these comments are for GT4's. GTB/S' wouldn't matter as the body crease is split by the bumper at the back.
No, if you mean early 308GTBs the Boxer trim does NOT enter the door jamb at all.... the whole quarter panel interior with ID plates is top body color.. I have two....
thanks for the help, though, i was refering to GTBs specifically, the GT4 pics were a great help as i didnt take many pics of my GT4. i forgot about the body lines bieng different ! one of the early 308GTBs i have inquired about seems to have been done in the Boxer scheme backwards. the lower section was painted black after the fact. seems there are more 76 GTBs with the 2 tone boxer paint than 77's. thanks again...... i am on the hunt.
Mine changes color inside the door jamb but I also know it's not a true boxer paint job. The lower section on mine is also glossy not flat. I found out with the heritage certificate that it used to be an all black car. Seems someone couldn't stand not having at least some "resale red" on the car.
A few pics as promised. Not sure if you wanted pics of the door jambs or not but I found one. First pic was as arrived with Gotti rims and all. Done just a little work on it since then.....and still doing more!!! . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
great pics, the door jamb one helps alot as its hard to picture some things in exact contex. thanks for posting!
I have a boxer paint 308gtsi as well. My computer is in the shop, but as soon as it's out I'll post some pictures.
The door jamb pic is interesting since it shows how the doors on the '78 differed from those of my '85. I knew about that but i didn't realize that the '78's had extra gauges in the lower left corner of the dashboard. You can see a couple gauges there in that picture. On my '85, there's just a small shelf where I keep my garage door opener. The pics of your car in WA are beautiful. I'm about to leave this state and it reminds me of some of the beauty I will miss. On the later cars you have gauges in the front of the console which the older cars don't. On mine it's the clock and oil temp in that slot by the door. I always wondered why the oil temp was put way down there almost out of sight. I'd rather have something like the gas gauge down there. I kind of like it here in WA also. I have said for years that while the winters are sometimes hard to take with all the grey weather, when it's nice here it's hard to beat!!
