My '83 did not have the original Pioneer radio or equalizer when I found it in California and brought it home. An original is very hard to come by, so I haven't really been looking. I want to repace the Denon cassette radio with a CD/radio.

Has anyone done this? Any recommendations as to brand/model? Do you need some sort of install kit? Are the speakers individually grounded?

    Thanks for any info.

You can buy the equalizer at the classic parts section of www.owners.ferrari.com as to the radio, I would e-mail the Ferrari Classihe department and see if they can source one for you.

At this time I am just looking for a quick fix. I found new equalizers, but the radio is very pricey. Ferrari wants an owner to have the entire car restored, not to sell just parts, I am not interested in that right now.

    Ron,
If you currently have a standard din mount radio almost any type should work. If you are unsure remove the old and radio and measure the opening. Most new radios come with a rectangular mounting cradle that gets put in the opening. The new radio then slides and locks into that. Then you just wire it all up. It is very simple.Good luck.

Have they told you that or are you making an assumption?

Why not the brand new Becker "old style" Mexico with GPS and MP3. It looks like a sixties radio but inside fits the newest technology.

Ferrari isnt going to run off a batch of old pioneer radios for boxer owners, they arent going to make brief case tool kits for us either. I would stop putting misplaced faith in ferrari to supply us with the unique odd ball things we need. If you needed an upright for your 750 monza thats a different story. If I had suffered a severe head injury and came to the conclusion that ferrari should restore my boxer and demanded the correct radio be installed they might find one for me but they wouldnt make it from thin air.

I have no idea if that is correct or not? Do you? I would assume that Ferrari would do everything it could to assist a classic owner until I find out otherwise. After all, Ferrari did create the Classiche program for that reason...at least per their PR releases so far. As far as the radio is concerned, all that would really be needed special would be the face plate as the radio itself was used in numerous cars of that era...and I'm sure a company like Ferrari has the pull to convince Pioneer to make a few old radios and Ferrari face plates.

Newman - I would agree with you. Being in the automotive business parts like radios are not as simple as just milling on a machine - Almost impossible to reproduce just a few for a couple of cars.

Parkerfe - I guess you are going to keep on this subject until you proven right :)

Franklin, I would like to think you are correct, but as I understand it from two dealers, Ferrari did not start this program to sell a few parts. They started the program to restore an entire car to original for a fee. And a profit. More profit in restoring your entire Boxer than selling you a new face plate for the radio.

Out of all the Boxers produced with this radio, How many today are missing the original? 5%? 10%? More?

Nevertheless, at this time, I just want to put a radio/CD player in the car that has red lighting to match the guages, and that I can listen to when I am driving with the A/C on. Thanks for the info Steve M. When I finally park the car for the purposes of preservation, then I will go to Pioneer myself and pay to have the face plate made.

Nice interior. What color is the car? What kind of radio, couldn't tell from the photo.

I just went with a new Blaupunkt CD...I know you guys have the equalizer to contend with.

But I figured Blaupunkt would be true to the SPIRIT of the era..it glows like a d@mn jukebox with all the fluorocscope graphics....but I detach the face when I put the car to bed......

Put a baby swazall right thru the dash to get it done....................

It is a Kenwood radio/CD. The car is silver exterior w/black leather and a grey dash.
