Hey folks, my Boxer had its original radio yanked out in the late 80's replaced with a then high tech Nak system. So finally, after WAY too long looking, I actually scored an original Pioneer 4300 in the box, 7 band 520 EQ, and the correct TS speakers, all with manuals. Hallelujah. The speakers are actually NEW in the cellophane-wrapped box. (I'm sure they're dry rotted beyond recognition, and may replace with new innards if needed.) Now my question... Does anyone have an 'extreme close up' of the Pioneer face plate? My radio shows a Jan 81 build date, but if anyone has ANY CLOSE UPS of their radio face plate and the year of your car, I want to make sure that mine is right before I stick it in. Thanks so much.
Here's a couple of pix I got from someone else. I don't have the original radio, and gave up looking. Great find! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks so much for that. Any closer and I could smell it! Just what I needed. But since I'm a voyeur and a tramp, more pictures from others would be even better!
Here's shots of the original radio & EQ that was in my previous 1983 512BBi #46189 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, check it out - Mr Horsey pranced on over to the left side on Gary's radio. (Thanks for the pics Gary.) Is this another 'late car' oddity? Oh, the Ferrrari world and its ever changing array of details. Anyone know on this? 2Dinos, do you know what year Boxer your photos are from? Gary, I have two other pics - the first photo is from Pinnin512s remarkable 'refurbish' of an original radio. (Awesome job, and I THINK this is for sale.) This is also like the photo in the Boxer Buyer's Guide sticky - second photo - that I think was of Newmans' car, showing horse in same location. Anyone want to step in on this mystery? Glad to help, These radio pix are from 512 BBi chassis # 41001. As for the year - Jeezuz - who knows. I can tell you it has a 1981 Sales and Service book. Best guesstimate, I think 1982? I'd be curious to hear others who have some handle on chassis #s compared to model year. That is interesting on the logo moving about the faceplate.
Just checked some interior shots of my 84 BBi original radio: horsey is on the lower right, below the band selector.
With all these 'right side' horsies, it is now so obvious to me: Gary's Boxer was a kit car. Dick Fritz has been notified. It really is interesting the tiny variances, details, the "wonder why they didn't that" when we all look at these cars. Part of the lore, but I REALLY never thought it'd happen with the only Japanese part on the whole car!
Hello, I take the opportunity of this thread since I am looking for a Pioneer KE-4300 steel drawer/cage to set this radio in the dash. I just changed a relatively modern Sony radio with a normalized cage 180x50mm, currently in place, for the original Pioneer KE-4300. But the Pioneer KE-4300 is 182mm wide and doesn't enter in the cage. I have been looking to Internet/Ebay/ specialized auto retailers but nothing since this standard is no more used. Some present "Pioneer suited without width indication, and it doesn't fit (180mm). In case, if some FChatter could indicate where I could get such a 182x50mm (internal dimensions) steel cage, I would be very grateful. Cheers, Jean-Paul
I might be mistaken, but I don't think the steel drawer cage was a thing back in the early 80s. These radios mount with some hardware behind the faceplate. Look closely at the pictures in Post #5; you can see the two mounting plates sticking up from the faceplate.
Thanks 2dinos, Well spotted! Indeed one can see the 2 clamps which tightened the radio thru both On/Off and tuning buttons, very often used at that time for any car. This mounting needs another rear steel leg screwed from the radio rear bolt on dash behind. Conclusion: I will dispose the drawer and try to file the 2 lateral protuberances (attached pic, in upper side position) to free up space for the radio width and good holding. If not successful, I should easily find the 2 front clamps on a dedicated vintage retailer and find a place to fix up the rear leg on dash (Oh my old back pain!).
